B2B on Different Ships

 Share

Recommended Posts

We are interested in doing a B2B, but on two different ships out of Port Canaveral. Would like to cruise first on the Sunshine, followed by a cruise on the Magic, departing the same day we disembark the Sunshine. What would be the best way to get from one terminal/ship to the other? Is it walkable with a rolling suitcase each, or is there a better way? Thanks in advance.

Just an FYI what you propose is commonly called a side to side (S2S) rather than a back to back (B2B) so as to differentiate between the two. Here is a photo of the cruise port. Only you can decide if that would be walkable. I could have done it easily a few years ago. Now since my accident, no way. I wish you a wonderful cruise. I love long cruises and what you are doing sounds like a great option for us too.

I'm curious: How old is that photo? The reason why I ask is that the port's website leads me to believe that Carnival now is the most frequent occupant of the piers to the left of the photo (Terminal 5 and Terminal 6), only occasionally using the pier to the far right (Terminal 10, where the Carnival ship is in the photo). If I'm right about that, then it is most likely that when Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Magic are both in port that they'd be at 90° angles to each other on the left, i.e., a shorter walk from one to the other than from the parking lot to either one. By contrast, if Carnival Sunshine is at Terminal 10 and Carnival Magic is at Terminal 5, it's about a 3/4 mile walk.

We did it in 2013. We were the last passengers off the Ecstasy & escorted by Carnival to the Dream, which was docked next to us. It was a short, easy walk & we wheeled our suitcases.

Located the port guide, and it says the 2 ships will be docked at Terminals 5 & 6, which are side by side, so it looks like a fairly easy walk. Anyone familiar with the distance between the 2 terminals?

I believe this link will take you to a photo from the crosswalk in front of Terminal 6 (the entry to Terminal 6 is at the right edge of the screen) with a view toward Terminal 5 in the distance (toward the left edge of the screen).

Thank you, that was very helpful!

I didn't word that properly. Would you call the scenario a side to side or just two cruises not far apart? I'm doing this in January 2018. I'm trying to figure out what to call my trip.

No official rules on what you call it. I’m sure when you look back years from now you will see it as one great vacation.

When folks ask us how many cruises we’ve been on, DW and I give different answers. I count our 5/4 day B2B as one cruise while she says its two. Fortunately, Carnival agreed with her when they were giving out P status based on # of cruises.

I've done all three types of cruising. continuing on the same ship, just recently on the Dawn, changing ships the same day and sailing days apart. I certainly find it insignificant changing ships. I go for itinerary and it would be far worse for me to settle on a lacking itinerary. Especially in the Caribbean where itineraries change. I do cruise frequently so it's just routine anyway.

We did a b2b2b in August in Southampton. When Oceania’s Marinia docked we saw the Celebrity Eclipse and took a taxi to it and then did the B2B which is a Brezze if you are staying in the same cabin. I’dsay take a cab less hassle.

Would anyone consider going on a 5 day on the Triumph and then three days later going on a 7 day on the Dream a side to side or just two cruises not far apart?

Why not the Mon-Sat 5 day on the Triumph then the Sunday departure on the Dream? Or the Dream first then the Monday on the Triumph? Especially if itinerary doesn't matter.

I would do it in a heartbeat!

I meant could my trip be called a side to side or is it just two cruises not very far apart. I know what it is called doesn't matter, but I am just curious if there is a term for it.

I booked the Dream leaving 1/28/18 on 2/10/17 and the Triumph leaving on 1/20/18 on 5/10/18. The Dream was the priority.

The Dream on the 28th is going to Key West(never been there), Freeport, and Nassau. I took my mom on a 4 day on the Sensation out of Port Canaveral in February 2016 for her 65th birthday. My parents had their honeymoon at what is now Atlantis. They were going to go back for their 25th anniversary, but my dad died before their 23rd anniversary. As the ship was leaving Nassau, my mom told me that they went on a carriage ride on their honeymoon. I chose the 28th just so we could take a carriage ride.

I wanted to do a B2B on the Dream, but the cabin I picked(2314) for the 28th had already been taken for the 21st. Instead of just moving our stuff to a different cabin, I impulsively chose the Triumph on the 20th.

I loved cabin 1206 on the Triumph in February 2017. I had my steward(Elsa) rearrange the furniture so the room looked like the picture on Carnival's site. There was alot of open floor space with the bunk bed setup. I also loved the window seat. I only had to go up one flight of stairs to get to my room when getting back on the ship.

The total cost of going on the Triumph and staying three nights in a hotel(Aloft) during parade season is still at least $200 less than going on the Dream on the 21st.

I would not want to get on and off twice, what a PIA. Debarking is by far the worst part of the cruise. B2B's are much better

Actually, our debarkation was easy. We had a late, leisurely breakfast & watched the long faces leave the ship. After everyone was off, they escorted off the ship, we breezed through customs, we took the short walk & were the first to check in and board the other ship. The only difference between B2B & side by side is you have to roll your suitcase.

We have done S2S cruises a few times. The transfer from one ship to another has been, so far, fairly smooth. At the end of this month we will do our first S3S. A little more involved, but time is on our side, on each embark day. :D Flying in and out of Miami will take care of the parking concerns.

It is two cruises not far apart....

Side by Side suggests the ships are docked side by side
