Bazzybuggs Posted October 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 19, 2017 I've seen quite a few pictures and videos of dining room staff dancing, waving napkins etc. and wondered if this happens every night or just on the last night? I presume it just happens in MDR? Life is a disease with a 100% mortality rate
timeinthesand Posted October 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2017 It doesn't happen every night, but it feels like it! I have only one time seen them dance in the Lido area. Macarena chicken dance remix came on, they all danced, it went off and the went back to bussing tables. Very unusual, impromptu seemingly, but choreographed. Hilarious too. Rare sparks1093 Posted October 19, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 19, 2017 They danced every night except the first night on Fascination. I don't know how they found the time to choreograph it so well but we found it entertaining (and of course there are people that don't find it to be so). twitzgall Posted October 19, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Wow. Does it happen at different times? I'm looking forward to seeing that lol If you're at Anytime Dining, it's hit or miss If you're at assigned dining, its every night right before/during dessert. funinthesun1964 Posted October 19, 2017 #9 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Depends on the ship and what the boss wants to do. I know once they didn't dance because they said they were too busy (that's what I was told anyway). I don't think they dance on the first night on any ship. But, YMMV. It is usually right around dessert time for fixed dining.
ultrafighter Posted October 19, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 19, 2017 There was at least one night last week on the Freedom (aside from the first night) where they didn't dance. Honestly, I go back and forth between enjoying it and wishing they'd just get on with the dinner service.
Micahs Grandad Posted October 19, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Pretty much every night. After you have been on a bunch of cruises find it rather boring. Hard enough for crew to keep up with good service without interrupting for 5-10 minutes
crusinpsychRN Posted October 19, 2017 #12 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Really delays dessert. I can't stand to see people waving napkins around their heads! The last night song brings tears to my eyes.
CruisinTrkrs3 Posted October 19, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Most nights w/a few exceptions as the others have noted... We Absolutely LOVE their dancing!😀 It's a much welcomed (Lol by us anyway) short timeout in our dinner routine... Some have Awesome moves, others are just plain adorable in their mishmash of their moves.🤣 Sent from my XT1585 using Forums mobile app
maryred Posted October 19, 2017 #14 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Wow. Does it happen at different times? I'm looking forward to seeing that lol Life is a disease with a 100% mortality rate On ships where ATD is the second floor of the set time dining it will happen on the set time dining schedule (just before dessert delivery about 1 hour after service begins) almost every night. On ships where ATD is in a separate MDR than the set time dinners the Maitre D' if they choose to it ay shift to run it at different times. In general for those using ATD the dancing could occur as you are being seated, during the starters, as part of the main course, during dessert, or not at all. Of course, if you have set time dining you may request of your servers that dessert delivery not wait till after the dancing. Especially helpful if children are involved. mrpayroll Posted October 19, 2017 #15 Share Posted October 19, 2017 During Early dining it starts right around 7:20. On our last cruise ( Sept ) they danced four of the seven nights.
Pellaz Posted October 19, 2017 #16 Share Posted October 19, 2017 If you're at Anytime Dining, it's hit or miss On the Vista for ATD, they did it twice on the nights when they danced. We arrived during the first dance and then the second was around our dessert time (by random chance).

Micahs Grandad Posted October 20, 2017 #19 Share Posted October 20, 2017 I think the staff HATES doing it...I'd just as soon see this end! I have always wondered about this and on last couple of cruises watched the crews faces. On the miracle Journey cruise think the majority of the crew actually likes it, especially the ones on the pedestals.

Rare cruisewithwife Posted October 20, 2017 #22 Share Posted October 20, 2017 When we were on the Freedom in July it was not every night I would say 4 or 5 of the 7. If the doors did not open until exactly 6 there was a show that night...if the doors were open before 6 no show

NCmom Posted October 20, 2017 #25 Share Posted October 20, 2017 On our 4 night Liberty cruise, they danced the last three nights. We didn't eat in the dining room first night, so I'm not sure if they danced then. I'm lukewarm on the dancing. One of our waiters looked like he didn't enjoy it, but put a smile on his face while doing it; the other really seemed to enjoy it.
