What is the difference between a Collectors' Cruise and a B2B

I have searched the forum and the HAL website but cannot find an explanation of the difference between a Collectors' Cruise and a B2B. We are on a Collectors' Cruise next year and was wondering what to expect if anything?

Collectors' Cruise is usually a cheaper price than the B2B as you have commited to being on the ship longer. That is the main benefit.

 

As to what to expect?...

 

Not too much ;) On some ships there has been a nice luncheon (Indonesion, IIRC) for the collectors in the MDR.

 

Not all the time though and not on our last cruise.

 

The special collectors' mariner bags were cancelled around 3 years ago or so.

 

One year on the P'dam there was a party for the Collectors' but I haven't seen that since sailing the P'dam.

 

There is usually a letter thanking you for staying on at the start of the segment segment. Sometimes, there is a small offer/gift included - but, not always.

 

Go expecting nothing special and if something does happen, even better.

On a Collectors Cruise you will have just 1 confirmation number.

On back-to-back cruises, you get 2 confirmation numbers.

We have done quite a few of both. As said there is a little savings on a Collectors Cruise.

We have never gotten a letter thanking us for staying on for a second cruise. Only once were we invited to a special cocktail party for staying on for a second cruise - that was a long time ago. Some people here mentioned that they were given a free dinner in a specialty restaurant -- never happened to us. There usually is an Indonesian lunch for the repeaters -- one time it wasn't just for us -- everyone on the ship could join in.

On the Collectors I've been on, a nice letter and and usually a dish of home-made candies - about 5 or 6 pieces. I've only been on a couple, but the same thing happened each time.

We were invited to a special (nice!) lunch for being on a Collector's cruise and an equally nice welcome-back letter waiting in the cabin when we re-entered the ship.

A couple of years ago I took four consecutive cruises. Cruises #2 & #3 were a Collectors' Cruise, while #1 & #4 were back to back with the middle ones.

I was gifted a lovely plate of chocolate truffles at the beginning of each of the last three cruises. :D

The term used did not seem to make a difference. The Collectors' Cruises combined that way did cost less than the individual cruises would have as back to back.

You may not get anything, but it certainly feels lovely sitting on the balcony seeing people leaving.

We did a Collectors Cruise to Alaska last year on the Zaandam and got a lovely plate of chocolates at the start of the 2nd leg, a free lunch at the Pinnacle Grill plus a cocktail party for the 45 or so of us who did both legs

We have done both. As I recall, Collectors Cruise is the combination of 2 cruises designated by HAL.

 

B2B (or, B2B2B, etc) is just a term fo more than one cruise the cruiser has put together. Each portion has its own booking #.

 

They used to do an Indonesian lunch for pax on the Collectors. Also cocktail parties, etc.

While we are on topic of B2B, how is debarkation for each leg of the cruise typically handled? Do you have to get off the ship and go through cutoms/check in or can you stay on the ship? I have my first one in December and the turnaround port will be Ft Lauderdale. I have the same cabin for both itineraries. Can't wait!!

You will have to go through Customs/immigration check. Whether you have to leave the ship - is usually determined by how many are continuing on. A large number usually means a visit to the showroom venue - where they scan your card and count you as 'left' the ship - and once everyone is accounted for, do a visual check with your passport and the officials.

 

A smaller group is escorted off the ship as a group - checked through immigration/customs and seated together in the terminal - until a zero count is reached and then allowed to return before any new passengers.

 

I've done one off the ship, the rest were in the showroom.

You do not have to get off ship but if you do, it’s no big Beal. You go around all the people waiting to board

On a Collectors cruise right now on the Konigsdam and there were many of us on the second leg. We all had to go through customs in the terminal and were escorted as a group. We are also invited to an Indonesian luncheon tomorrow. Don't know about chocolates yet!
