Rare csoud68 Posted November 1, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 1, 2017 ? I love steak and might just get one or two every night if they are tasty.
ray98 Posted November 1, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 1, 2017 I had no complaints with the ones I have been served. I always order rare or medium rare and they are all pretty tender given it isn't a Ribeye or Strip.
JohnSpo Posted November 1, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 1, 2017 It is a tender cut of beef. Even though it is very lean, it still is tasty. I usually order it medium.
no1racefan1 Posted November 1, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 1, 2017 We were pleasantly surprised with the MDR flat iron steak on Victory; DH and I are both big steak eaters and he uses steak (usually ribeye) as a litmus test of sorts whenever we go out. While it wasn't a super gourmet, amazeballs steak, it was very good, enough to order it a second time on our 4-day cruise.
mrpayroll Posted November 1, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 1, 2017 I usually have it a couple times a week during the cruise. No complaints.
jdoc2010 Posted November 1, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 1, 2017 I like the flat iron steak, usually medium rare. The size and thickness of the flat iron varies night to night. And if you dont like it, you can always order something else.
sanmarcosman Posted November 1, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 1, 2017 The flat iron is from the shoulder and must be skillfully butchered to ensure tenderness. On the off chance you get a tough one ask for another. Also for tenderness it is best when cooked medium rare. Cut it against the grain on your plate. It has good flavor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_iron_steak
buddylover Posted November 1, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 1, 2017 Yes, agree, this is not a tender piece of meat and we have not had one we have liked due to its 'chewiness' and 'toughness'.....but we still keep trying on each and every cruise one time!!! PCHENG Posted November 1, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 1, 2017 I had it about 2 to 3 times on my most recent Conquest cruise. Portion size is decent at about 6 to 8 ounces. While not as tender as a filet, I will take it over a sirloin, strip, flank or chuck.
FloridaMommyof3 Posted November 1, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 1, 2017 If you can get it medium rare and it's cooked correctly I think it's really good.
Micahs Grandad Posted November 1, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 1, 2017 Not my favorite but get it from time to time
beerman2 Posted November 1, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 1, 2017 I am one who likes the flat iron and have been fortunate enough to have had very good ones. It's my second course when I do have it. Usually get seafood with main dish. Make it my own surf and turf combo.

SkyMaster Posted November 1, 2017 #16 Share Posted November 1, 2017 When Carnival first started offering the "Flat Iron", I gave it a shot, but found it to be a bit tough, however lately, I've ordered it and it was really quite good. No problems, and I don't hesitate to recommend it. "SKY"
Remus2010 Posted November 1, 2017 #17 Share Posted November 1, 2017 it has been hit or miss with us. Sometimes it was great, sometimes it was just ok. Never inedible.
Cushing985 Posted November 1, 2017 #18 Share Posted November 1, 2017 That's my "go to" if nothing else appeals to me (a rarity). Seems when I do order it is tough. I would never order it in a land restaurant.
coevan Posted November 1, 2017 #19 Share Posted November 1, 2017 "I will take it over a sirloin, strip, flank or chuck." You can not put chuck in the same category of Filet, N.Y., or Ribeye. Chuck happens to be full of flavor, just not served like a steak. It is mostly, baked, roasted, slow cooked , or pressure cooked
nwo4life Posted November 1, 2017 #20 Share Posted November 1, 2017 A flat iron steak of Wygu beef has been added to the steakhouse menu recently. Sent from my iPad using Forums
robin13 Posted November 1, 2017 #21 Share Posted November 1, 2017 I ordered it last month on my Breeze cruise and it was absolutely horrible!! It was a thick round piece of meat that I could barely cut and it had no flavor at all. The only reason I ordered it was because I had it the year before on the Freedom and it was great. I do have to say that my only complaint about my Breeze cruise was the food. I am not a foodie or picky at all but the food on the Breeze was just plain bad. Thankfully I had the Cheers program so I drank my meals most of the time (lol).
teknoge3k Posted November 1, 2017 #22 Share Posted November 1, 2017 We are picky eaters and that's literally the only thing I order in the MDR. Every night. lol
johnlisac Posted November 2, 2017 #23 Share Posted November 2, 2017 Sorry to say but it is by far the worst piece of meat I've ever had!! But that's just my opinion. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk
coevan Posted November 2, 2017 #24 Share Posted November 2, 2017 It generally is not known as a tender piece of meat. When Food Channel shows how difficult it is to cook a hanger steak and some Chef's say it must be cooked rare -med rare to be edible, is not a good start when ordering a steak. I'll stick with the big 3, N.Y, Filet, and Rib Eye the most tender and flavorful cuts of meat, period.
