water-rat Posted December 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 12, 2005 Which is cheaper when the cruise leaves a European port and arrives in the US0--booking the flights myself or going through the cruise line? And if I use the cruise line (NCL) will I have any flexibility regarding flights?
Rare LHT28 Posted December 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2005 You can do it either way. If using the cruiseline choose your flights then pay the deviation fees, usually $50-$75. That way you can get the flights that work best for you . If searching online do the multi destination option

If the cruise line's normal air cost is $500 and the flights you want are $800, you pay the deviation fee PLUS $300.

Yes you are right sorry I forgot to mention that also.:( Some fares there is no additional charges but it depends on the routing. I would choose to book my own air ! DEL67 Posted December 12, 2005 #5 Share Posted December 12, 2005 You can do either, but booking yourself allows you to pick your own flights and it can be less expensive. For example, we were able to get a non-stop from JFK to Barcelona through airlineconsolidator.com for about $300 for our recent transatlantic cruise from Barcelona to Miami. Our JetBlue flight back to Newark only cost $69 for a total of $369. We didn't get transfers, but siince cruise air was $699, we saved $320 which is well over the cost of transfers. BermudaBound'05 Posted December 14, 2005 #6 Share Posted December 14, 2005 What exactly IS a repositioning cruise?
parody Posted December 14, 2005 #7 Share Posted December 14, 2005 In this case, it is probably easier to quote others: What is a repositioning cruise? Since peak seasons vary in different parts of the globe, Cruise Lines will sometimes move their ships around to keep a higher occupancy rate and to take advantage of those peak season rates. When a ship moves from an existing itinerary in the Caribbean to Alaska or Europe, the trip to the new itinerary is called a repositioning cruise.
