Things to do on board

My parents are going on the freedom in just a few weeks. My dad will be staying on board while in port. He is also in a wheelchair. Last cruise we found out the casinos are closed while in port. He is bringing a book. But I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions of things he can do. Tia

Gotcha, big help to have the power chair. I haven't been on Freedom, but I imagine most of the ship should be accessible. Would he go to trivia and things like that? Maybe there will be a movie in the theater during the day? I know things do tend to be limited on port days though. I face similar challenges when travelling with my parents. I know it's very important to them to not make others feel like they have to hold back from doing other things.

Does he WANT to stay on board? If not, I suggest you email ShorexAccess@rccl.com. They will send you a list of wheelchair accessible shore excursions. There are a lot more than those listed in the cruise planner. There are things like trivia, bingo, arts and crafts, movies, restaurants, people watching, reading, etc. This thread is not only a review, but it also has copies of the Cruise Compass: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2425744

I’ve not traveled on Freedom, but have done several cruises on Liberty (sister ship) and Navigator. Does Freedom have a Flowrider? If so, it is a lot of fun to watch people try & surf. If there is a card room, there are often groups playing card-type some sort. He could spend time outside on the Solarium...it’s just covered up enough to be shady, but still outdoors. Also, there is often a band outside (within earshot of the Solarium). He could catch the tunes while relaxing in the Solarium. Is Bingo a port-day activity...I can’t remember, as we don’t do Bingo.

Have him go to guest services - there is a bulletin board there where people post get together and meetings - there might be a group playing poker and looking for someone to join the game. And I second people watching at the Flow Rider - MUCH entertainment. I am sailing with my mom next week and she too will be staying on the ship while we go ashore. I set her up with a kindle and a ton of books. Too bad we are on the same sailing - they could play cards and keep each other company.
