A Haven Question

One week to go!! Recently found out our upgrade bid to The Haven was accepted. We are moving to a courtyard penthouse!! My question involves bringing guests into The Haven. We are traveling with my BIL and his wife. Are we allowed to bring them in to the area for a tour and possibly a drink? We don't want to create any problems but they are curious about the area we'd love to show them. Thanks for your advice:cool:

No, they are not allowed to visit the courtyard nor are they allowed to visit the bar.

However, the concierge may permit a quick tour. It is at the concierge's discretion. Do not expect the concierge to allow your BIL to explore/visit the Haven complex.

You are allowed to have guests in your stateroom but they must go directly to the room.

I was in the Haven last year - absolutely wonderful!!

I met lovely couple (non Haven) and asked if they could join us for a lunchtime meal and was unfortunately denied.

They did indulge me to allow them a very quick tour but it was frowned upon.

We enjoyed their company a few times outside of the Haven. The Haven is so wonderful and is set in its own little world - your family may want to upgrade too!

My first introduction to the suites and Haven on NCL was when my mother and I met two nice gentlemen at our hotel that were from our hometown they invited us up to their Haven two bedroom penthouse for lunch. They explained to me and my mother that they could have us to their suite but could not entertain us in any of the common areas. They explained to us that it was out of respect for the other Haven and suite guests. They did get permission to give us a walking tour where we never stopped.

Well, the tour did the trick because I have not cruised in anything less than a suite since.

Thank you all for your quick replies. Hopefully we'll be able to do a quick walkaround. We can only hope the concierge will indulge us. If not, no big deal. I've been in the Haven before and know how wonderful it is!!

Wanted to share a tiny slice of Heaven.

Unfortunately they were not offered an upgrade bid offer. Believe me, they would have taken it!!

Congratulations! I'm still have my fingers and toes crossed for Escape Nov 25th. Not too many Haven rooms left. How much was your bid and were there a lot of room left? Have a great time! :)

My bid was in the poor range. As far as I can tell we were at the end of the acceptances. We didn't go crazy because we knew we would be happy with our original cabin if we weren't accepted. We are however thrilled to be in The Haven. From what I understand there is a very complicated formula as to who gets accepted. Not sure why we did over anyone else but we'll take it!! I found out on 11/9 for a 11/26 sailing.

How does one do an upgrade bid? We're new to Norwegian so is it only available to those who have cruised with Norwegian before?

There is lots of info available on the Upgrade Advantage Program. Just do a search. I do know that you do not have to be a part guest. My nephew got an offer and he has never been on a cruise. You will find in several postings that there is no discernable pattern to how the offers are made our accepted.

You can certainly have them in your suite for a drink or even a meal, but not in the Haven common areas.

I also thought you could bring them to the Haven restaurant for dinner for a fee, but not sure if that is the case.

Yes, you can bring non-Haven guests to eat in the Haven restaurant for a fee. The number of times you can do this is limited.

It used to be 2 times per week for $25pp for up to 2 people or $35pp for 3 people but recent Haven guests are reporting that it is no longer allowed. It may also vary depending on how many people are sailing in the Haven for a given week. It's at the discretion of the concierge. If it's allowed, great. If not, don't be surprised.

If you just want to walk guests through the haven, try late at night. The concierge closes at 8 or 9PM and after that there's likely nobody around to stop you.

This works as I have seen it done a few times. I would say if you want to be extra sure, do it after the Haven bar closes (10 pm I think). The whole Haven complex gets pretty quiet after that.

LVCruiser65 - we were also fortunate enough to snag an upgrade to the Haven. Very excited to finally participate the Haven experience.

From what I’ve read, the Gem Haven does not have its own bar nor its own dining facility. A private beakfast is offered in the Moderno and lunch at Cagney’s.

The OP is sailing on BA where the bar Haven bar closes at 10 p.m.

On the Gem, no bar in Haven area. There is an attendant there for a large portion of the day who may get you drinks.

Also, the pool bar is open much of the day and is a pretty easy spot to get to from Haven only down two floors. Later in the day Sugarcane bar opens and that is only one floor down.

Note on the port side of the area by the elevators on Gem is a keycard staircase which makes it easy to go from 14 to 13.

My daughter made a friend who was staying in the Haven on our last cruise. She went several times swimming with them there, and we went a couple times to watch them while swimming. No one said anything.

Your experience was an exception, not the rule.

For someone asking for advice, it's best to tell them the rule, not the exception.

Imagine the embarrassment if someone who was not a Haven guest was to get escorted out of the courtyard.... (it happens)

And sometimes it's not just just the Haven staff you have to worry about, but also overzealous passengers!

On our last cruise we arrived one evening at the Haven door just after another couple. As we walked in behind them the woman swung around and immediately asked to see our Haven key card! I told her we could ask the bar tender in the lounge to verify our identity as she knew us quite well by that point [emoji6]

That is actually hilarious! 😂. I’m sure i will get slammed but we traveled with non haven friends last year and they spent many afternoons with us on the haven sundeck. No one said boo they even gave their key card for drinks!

It's because Haven guests bring non-Haven guests into the Haven the woman reacted the way that she did.

I admit I'm guilty of making sure the door is closed behind me, even if other people are walking up -- unless I recognize them which becomes pretty easy a few days into the cruise.
