gingersvp Posted December 5, 2017 Author #126 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Sushi making class. Unfortunately I was called out to pick up our daughter. They kindly finished my rolls for me and we got back just in time to nom on the rolls.

gingersvp Posted December 5, 2017 Author #130 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Bridge tour! Door decorating contest. In true Stephanie fashion I didn't get my act together in time to be considered but we still participated. We also slept right through the CC Meet and Mingle yeaterday....due to the poor decisions we made about drinks on day 1.

gingersvp Posted December 5, 2017 Author #134 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Today has been fairly quiet. Breakfast room service took an abnormally long time to deliver, which stressed me for our bridge tour. But we inhaled food and made it in time. I was irritated because I'd been told my daughter was too young for the tour and made nursery arrangements for her, however another family showed up with their clearly younger child. Whispered conversations later, we discover they were told they couldn't bring the baby and did anyways, which would get their genie into deep trouble but he was afraid to confront them. Ultimately I was glad my daughter wasn't there. She was happier playing with toys and we had our hands free. The other toddler caused multiple disturbances and I was thankful it wasn't us dealing with that. It's been a rather rough sea day, resulting in multiple closures. We opted to play euchre in the room with my aunt and mother in law, then watch the belly flop contest. Altogether a rather quiet and relaxed day. Oh, also we did the sushi class. Good times. I will say the sushi we had delivered yesterday was the absolute best thing I've put in my mouth this trip. BlueHerons Posted December 5, 2017 #135 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Did you guys see the super moon or whatever it was Sunday night as you were leaving? We were sitting on the beach in Fort Lauderdale watching the cruise ships leave and could not believe the moon over the ocean. It was magnificent! Pitzel Posted December 6, 2017 #136 Share Posted December 6, 2017 Cocktail party ready, hope everyone still shows.... If you don’t mind me asking, what portions of the cocktail party were included in your star class perks and which ones did you pay for? We are thinking of hosting a party when we sail and would love to know what we can expect. Thanks!
MaiseyM Posted December 6, 2017 #137 Share Posted December 6, 2017 Too bad about the closures due to weather. It sounds like you're still having fun though. I agree; not having a toddler on hand for tours allows you to take things in more leisurely. I hope the pool weather is still good and you can take in some sun. We were sitting on the beach in Fort Lauderdale watching the cruise ships leave and could not believe the moon over the ocean. It was magnificent! We did! I tried to capture a shot of it, but we were moving very fast and the winds were so strong I couldn't keep my phone still enough. So the photo is very blurry. We are thinking of hosting a party when we sail and would love to know what we can expect. Thanks! When I first mentioned the party, Joyce emailed me their catering menus which have a 16 person minimum and are extra charges. I really wanted to do something simple and let her know that was more than I was looking to do. She said if it was a reasonable number of people they could produce 'a couple' plates of canapes. I DID buy 6 bottles of bubbly. As you can see, an enormous pile of food showed up. And, because the show was cancelled, we had fewer people attend. At least half the food went to waste, which makes me feel terrible. I loathe wasted food. We went through 5 of the bottles and gifted the bride and groom with the last unopened bottle. All in all it was a good time and we had 11 people show up (out of our group of 28) - so the food might have been right if we'd had everyone. At least half of our group aren't drinkers, so my bubbly purchase might have been spot on. I'll admit that those of us that were drinking, hit it harder because we felt an obligation to make best use of the bubbly.
gingersvp Posted December 6, 2017 Author #140 Share Posted December 6, 2017 Jumping around a bit, I realize I didn't mention anything about embarkation - which was an absolute dream. We took the shuttle from our hotel to the port. I didn't realize it only left at a specific time and when I emailed Joyce with our updated arrival information she did let me know she had another family arriving at the same time. We're not particularly fussy people and I knew we might have a short wait, which was fine. My cousin arranged for priority boarding for everyone in our group that wasn't in a suite - so that was awesome for the rest of the gang. When the shuttle arrived, we mentioned to a porter we were Star class and he instantly pulled our luggage aside, loaded it on to its own trolley and walked us to the front. I was going to tip him, but he shuffled us off so quickly to the Royal agent we never even had a chance. It was great that he knew what to do, because we otherwise had no idea where to go. The Royal agent then escorted us to the front of security. Now, my passport is in my prior name. I changed my name in the middle of my 2nd year and honestly have just been lazy about updating it. I have been traveling for 6 years with my old name on the passport and my court ordered name change certificate without problem. I've been on multiple cruises and this time the security agent really made a big stink, but then ultimately let me through. It is on my agenda to get this updated, but I haven't had big enough gaps between trips to make it happen. We'll see. Anywho - after the security scan we said bye bye to our luggage and were escorted to check in. When we arrive, they had our health questionnaires pre-filled out, awaiting our signature. In rapid fire fashion all 4 of our sea passes were in our hands. At this point, the Royal agent escorting us about fell all over himself because Joyce was not there to greet us. We reassured him this was expected and he took us to the suite/VIP lounge area where there were cookies and coffee, etc. As he left he said, "If at any time you feel you are not being attended to as you wish, please find me or another agent." I do not believe it possible for this man to have been any more agreeable than he already was. I'm not a fan of lines and crowds and quite honestly really enjoyed the 15 minute wait in the lounge. My little Lady Stormaggedon also loved the cookies and it was just a nice chance to regroup. While we were waiting I saw the rest of our gang embark. Moments later, Joyce greeted us and escorted us directly to our room. While she was going over the Star class perks, our luggage arrived. My hubs then stepped out to bring his mom and my aunt back to our room so we could all have a comfy place to wait. We may or may not have promptly opened up some beer while we were being given all the details. :D Did we actually make it on the ship any faster? Probably not. Did the escorted service make us feel like real VIPs? Absolutely. It was a spectacular start to our vacation.
gingersvp Posted December 6, 2017 Author #141 Share Posted December 6, 2017 Today we're in St. Thomas. I believe I mentioned earlier that I met both my husband and Amanda online through the heady old days of Google+ Hangouts. Well, one of our other friends recently moved back to St. Thomas and we're meeting up with him for lunch. It was at his house that I first met Amanda and we're now coming full circle. I'm pretty excited about this,

How did your cousin arrange for nonsuite members of your party to board with you? We are in an Owner's Suite in an upcoming cruise and would like to have one other member of our party check-in with us. Was that allowed because of your Star status? Thank You!! gingersvp Posted December 6, 2017 Author #144 Share Posted December 6, 2017 She was getting married on the ship and did it through the wedding coordinator. We didn't actually have any pull on that. You could try asking the concierge when they contact you. The worst that will happen is that they say no.

gingersvp Posted December 6, 2017 Author #149 Share Posted December 6, 2017 In St. Thomas we met up with our friend Rory who advised us to meet him at the Tap & Still. He said it was right by the docks. We turned down all the taxis thinking it was nearby. It was not. It rained. A lot. Amanda had the brilliant idea of taking shelter in the Ace Hardware and then Jon suggested we purchase ponchos. So onwards we hiked, crazy tourists in hopelessly ugly and infective ponchos. We even saw other tourists taking pictures of us. We eventually flagged down a taxi, but we were already drenched to the bone. Good times and exciting adventures. After some yummy noms and local beers Rory showed us around the island and we saw some of the storm damaged areas. They're rebuilding, but slowly. He said the main problem is lack of supplies and that they had even forwarded their supplies to Puerto Rico, knowing they were in greater need. Amanda and me, soaked selfie.
