Southern Caribbean cruise out of San Juan

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on Jewel of the Seas in Feb 2018 and sailaway is at 8:30pm. Does anyone know what time cabins are typically ready and what time is all aboard? What time do they generally conduct the muster drill?

Also, what time do we need to be off the ship on the final day? Our flight out is not till 4pm, so a leisurely breakfast would be nice. I do understand that we need to be out of the room steward's way, but how late can we expect to be allowed in the public areas of the ship before they run us out? LOL

Staterooms are typically ready between 1pm and 2pm. All aboard would be 90 minutes before scheduled departure.

They will want you off the ship around 9:30am, and breakfast will have been stopped long before that.

We sailed out of San Juan this summer on the AOS.

An interesting side note is that you can check in and board the ship, drop your bags, and then get back off and tour Old San Juan, if you are so inclined; just be back for muster.

You can also pick up some items from the duty free store inside the terminal, several times if needed.:)

Something to do when you have a late flight out of San Juan.

For the same cost as a taxi ride (about $25) you can take a tour of Old San Juan that lasts about 2 1/2 hours.

When you walk out the door after clearing immigrations, walk to the left and you'll see a small podium with a sign that says "tours".

You and your luggage will be loaded on a mini bus that holds between 15-20 people. The tours vary, but generally you will go through Condado on the way to old San Juan, usually with a stop just before Fort El Morro where they let you off for about 15 minutes so you can take pictures of the above ground cemetary, as well as the forts.

Usually they will then drop you off at the main plaza where you have about an hour for shopping or dining.

After that it's about a 20 minute ride to the airport.

A couple of the reviews recently mentioned room being ready just a little later, one recently said 2:30. I would guess that might improve by Feb. Come back and let us know.

If you have a late flt you can take a cab to OSJ to Barrachina's. It's a restaurant and they will check your luggage for free. No requirement to eat there, but we did . You can wander around OSJ before picking up your luggage and heading to the airport. I don't know if they are open since the hurricane so would check. Also look to see if the free trolley is operating. It leaves from the pier in OSJ and circles stopping at El morro among other places. Enjoy your trip.

We dined at Barrachina November 10th. Not overly busy. We did resort for a day at Marriott Stellaris before flight home the 18th. It was raining and gym/spa was closed so we had the privilege of paying to sit in the lobby for 5 hours using their wifi. At least AC was blasting so we didn't fly home sweaty. We left hotel at 1:47 and were at our gate at 2:20 for a 5:00 flight with 2 ships in port. Should have stayed at Marriott another hour.
