easyboy Posted December 8, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 8, 2017 You can post on the San Juan Port of Call Board for updates from those who were just recently there. Rare Keith1010 Posted December 8, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 8, 2017 I would also just read some of the recent post on the San Juan Board. I have seen posts from people who have been there who said it was much better then expected and that a lot of work has been done. Keith
2wheelin Posted December 8, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 8, 2017 Were there Nov 30 and they were extremely happy to see us. Ship suggested not going downtown or to beaches. Not sure why—if it was dangerous or power shortage or just want us to stay out of the way so they can work. We walked all of Old San Juan. Power was being restored hopefully that day to the last street still without it. DI on that street and not open. People extremely friendly and debris cleaned up. Forts open. Trolley not running at that time. What you can do is spend money and don’t try to bargain. Walk past the churches and drop a few dollars in the donation jars. There is lots to see, even if you have been there before.
Snorkeltheworld Posted December 9, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted December 9, 2017 Thank you for your helpful reply 2Wheelin. I will plan to go to Old San Juan and spend some money there and donate some to the churches. God bless!
sopo1953 Posted December 10, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 10, 2017 We were in San Juan last week. We walked to El Moro and then back through town. I noticed very little difference from the last time I was there. The trees didn't seem as bad as the trees in Grand Turk. We didn't leave the Old City and didn't shop. sandy toes Posted December 11, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 11, 2017 Another poster suggested visiting churches and giving donation, that is a fantastic idea. We have done that in good times but now it is even more important. Shops are opening and need the business. I will spend all that I can budget there. Old Town is lovely and by spring should be returning to the fine greenery and flowers it is known for. There will still be night time parties, especially on Fri and Sat nights at the hotels near the port. Lots of music and dancing that flows into the streets. a really good time. taylortime05 Posted December 30, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 30, 2017 The port area is open but don't go too far. We are in San Juan on Jan 11 from 7-2. Me and hubby are going to walk around and see the forts. But my adult kids want to go on ATV excursion either Calabria or Campo Rico. Both are 45-60 minutes away. Do you think these could be dangerous?

Snorkeltheworld Posted January 3, 2018 Author #12 Share Posted January 3, 2018 Hi, I was in Old San Juan on December 23rd. There are quite a few tourists walking around and it seemed safe to me. I was alone, but trying to walk near other tourists. 2 young adults in my party went on the ATV excursion through Carnival and said it was one of their best days on the cruise. They left at 7:15 a.m. and it took an hour to get to the rainforest. I saw photos from their excursion and it was beautiful and very safe.
