ebrasl Posted December 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2017 hi all We are looking at a June sailing on the princess star. Goes Vancouver to anchorage. We based this mostly on the recommendations here. We will have two 10 year olds with us. Two parents in their 40s and grandparents in their 70s (active). The reviews on the star are mixed. Is the ship really in that bad of shape? I know aLascaux is not about the ship but the itenerary but we want to have a nice ship as well. Thanks! easyboy Posted December 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2017 We take negative reviews with a grain of salt. Each one have different expectations. We found the Star to be enjoyable. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare Coral Posted December 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2017 (edited) Many years ago I sailed the Star to Alaska and have sailed her to other places. She has good viewing from open decks, has a covered pool, and Princess has a lot of enrichment programs. I wouldn't hesitate to go on her again to Alaska. She also doesn't feel crowded compared to newer ships. She isn't shiny new but a lot of the shiny new ships have poor itineraries to Alaska. I just looked at a dry dock schedule and it said the Star Princess was in dry dock this month. If so, she should be in good condition. Ships are often "tired" before going into dry dock. Here is a post of someone who recently got off the ship post dry dock: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2575770 Edited December 30, 2017 by Coral
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 30, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2017 Princess does Alaska very well and I think is good for multi-generational families. I am sure you all will have a great time and make memories which will last a lifetime. Keith
