excursions with buses that are safe for children without car seats in Cozumel

Our group of 10 (including 4 children ages 5, 4, 3 and 2) will be traveling on the Allure of the Seas in July 2018. We are not taking car seats on the plane and will be using bus shuttles from airport to cruise port and will not require car seats there.

 

The issue is with port excursions. Taxis in Nassau, Mexico and Roatan do not have car seats and do not require them. We will not allow our children to ride in cars without car seats and have heard that even if we did bring car seats with us, most taxis in these countries cannot accommodate US cars seats. Cannot get straight answer from RCCL if the excursions we are interested in use buses that are safe for children to ride in without car seats. How have other cruisers handled this? The Allure is a great ship but would like to go on excursions in some of the ports and have child-safe transportation.

Most ship sponsored excursions will use buses where car seats are not required. On Coz a popular beach club for families with kids is Playa Mia - kiddie water park, nice beach, water toys, and many food/drink options. See if RCI is offering a trip there during your stop.

There are not many bus excursions on Cozumel. I have seen some at main tourist attractions but not many while driving round. Although probably safer, no guarantees regardless of age, as shown by the recent tragic ship bus excursion from Costa Maya.

 

Not sure why you would think car seats couldn’t be used if you insist on a taxi WITH operational seat belts but ultimately it is the parents responsibility and decision. I will share our experience with a young child in the places you mention.

 

Cozumel, we have taken larger taxi van and held child;

we have hired a driver for the day for custom tour and requested their car seats. ( I think they may only have two seats available but depending on size of children you could probably use inflatable booster seats for the older children);

we have walked and purchased day pass to Park Royal, no transport required from International Pier.

 

Nassau, you can take boat transportion to one of the off shore islands directly from the cruise pier. We recently did this to Pearl Island but there are other islands and I believe Blue Lagoon may have more family activities.

 

Roatan we have taken boat directly from cruise pier to Maya Kay for the day - very simple hassle free day.
