andlep Posted January 14, 2018 Author #78 Share Posted January 14, 2018 Our day in Wellington (day 10) was spent wandering up to Cuba Street. Lovely part of town full of shops, cafes and restaurants. Our first coffee at El Matador was a disaster so went on to Midnight Espresso (178 Cuba Street) where the coffee was excellent. Lunch was great at Origami Japanese restaurant, 158 Cuba St. Highly recommend the ramen and excellent sushi. andlep Posted January 14, 2018 Author #79 Share Posted January 14, 2018 In the evening we were entertained by the Jewel show band at the spinnaker lounge. They played a tribute to Glenn Miller and a few people were dancing. I really enjoyed myself here. Moved on later to magnums for our favourite piano man, Taylor. Stayed till closing consuming way too many whiskies. At this point I must say that a hairy lemon (vitamin b effervescent) really makes a difference in the morning. big stretch Posted January 14, 2018 #82 Share Posted January 14, 2018 Andrew, thanks for all the info. Has the weather been warm enough for swimming or sunbathing at the pool on the ship? We are boarding in one week.
andlep Posted January 14, 2018 Author #83 Share Posted January 14, 2018 Another thing to note is that Wellington is the only port so far that had uber available. Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
andlep Posted January 14, 2018 Author #84 Share Posted January 14, 2018 Andrew, thanks for all the info. Has the weather been warm enough for swimming or sunbathing at the pool on the ship? We are boarding in one week. Before reaching Wellington it has been too cold for swimming. Yesterday was a lovely sunny 22`C and today in Napier it is swimming weather. Bring a light rainproof jacket and a jumper for the Southern island leg of your trip. Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk

andlep Posted January 15, 2018 Author #86 Share Posted January 15, 2018 Day 11 Napier This morning we had breakfast outside by the pool at the grill. It was lovely and warm and we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. Took a 10 minute shuttle bus ride to the tourist information centre in town (it also stops further down at the aquarium) where we booked a one hour tour of the city in an open top vintage car. Can't recommend this tour highly enough. The guide was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and made our tour one to remember. The same can be said for all the locals who take pride in their town and are very welcoming to visitors. Napier so far has been my favourite town. The restaurant we wanted for lunch is closed on Mondays so we returned to the ship for a light salad. Dinner was with a few friends at Azura. I had an excellent smoked duck for appetiser and the delicious rotisserie chicken. Other food was a mixed bag. General consensus of the table was the pasta and noodle dishes were not too great and the risotto was just rice with a gravy type sauce. Luckily there is no problem ordering another dish so no one went unsatisfied or hungry. Once again fast (we were a party of 8) and friendly service. andlep Posted January 15, 2018 Author #87 Share Posted January 15, 2018 Monday night we saw tenori again after a stop at the ship's store to buy some cough syrup for our "ship's cough" that we seem to have acquired. The store has a great selection of medicines, lots of cold and flu tablets and so on. I tried the Vaseline in the nostrils trick (I googled ship's cough lol) , gargle of betadine, cough syrup and a night cold /flu tablet. Woke up this morning feeling much better. andlep Posted January 16, 2018 Author #91 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Day 12 Tauranga Tauranga port is very organised. Many tours and hire cars available. Nice coffee by Mr barista too. We pre booked a tour with "cruise tours Tauranga" to Rotorua. I have never seen mud pools or steaming geysers so thoroughly enjoyed it. karoo Posted January 16, 2018 #94 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Great info- yes I’ve booked the tour to Roturua with a private company. Good to know though that I could have done it once I got off the ship. Sorry you missed the Bay of Islands. I hope the weather improves. dani negreanu Posted January 16, 2018 #95 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Seas have been very smooth. Enjoying the review very much, thank you for taking the time to do it and answering questions. andlep Posted January 17, 2018 Author #99 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Thanks Andrew for such detailed updates. Helps us first time cruisers a lot. How long did the rough conditions last? You are welcome. I also enjoyed people's 'live from' as a relatively newbie to cruising so paying it back [emoji5] The rough weather lasted around 24 hours, but the ship rocked only a little. It was just the tenders that could not be launched. Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
