Pens fan Posted January 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2018 We just switched from the cancelled 9/28 Gem cruise to the 10/08 one. It begins in Quebec City with an overnight on the 8th and sail away on the 9th. I'm wondering when they will hold the muster drill - on the 8th or the 9th? Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks! don't-use-real-name Posted January 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Over a year ago took the B2B Boston Quebec Boston cruise on the Dawn and the muster drill was held about a half hour to an hour before sailing that next day. This is when everyone is required to be on board ! Muster drills are best held while the ship is in port and stable and for another reason if the ship sets sail and hasn't had a MD suddenly has an issue requiring action (you are a half hour out of the harbor/port and need to say abandon ship) -what action is to be taken - where to go - what to do - what to bring wear - where do I find the life vests - etc. etc. etc.
Pens fan Posted January 11, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted January 11, 2018 Thanks! That makes sense. I wanted to make sure if we headed back out to explore Quebec City some more on the first day, we wouldn't miss the drill.

From what I understand registration-check in goes on pretty much till midnight. Your portered luggage service stops around 6pm and you have to do a walk-on with it or wait till the next day. Best way is to check-in as soon as possible have your luggage portered on the ship and delivered to your stateroom. Once you have registered and received your cabin key cards - you do not need to board at the time - come back and board at anytime. As with any procedure check with NCL for any changes in this and read on from CC posters for any other developments. Basically the ship is your hotel for the overnight stay - once checked in you can come and go like any other hotel. Best to board at least by early evening to make sure your luggage was properly delivered to your cabin - then you can hang and sort your casual cruise wear. With a ship like the DAWN* * The GEM being of similar size and capacity would be the same scenario. The check-in runs pretty smoothly since the volume of folks checking in is spread out over almost a 24 hour period.
