creativitycounts Posted January 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2018 We are on the Norwegian Jade on June 8 from Southampton. We fly to London the day before. Stayting there overnight to meet with friends. I'd love to know if anyone has the best and/or cheapest suggestions to get from London to Southampton? Rare www3traveler Posted January 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2018 When I did this in 2014, I stayed at the Norwegian partnership hotel and had a transfer from the hotel to Southampton. A bus came the morning of the cruise, loaded us and off to Southampton. I think the journey was around an hour and half to two hours. The transfer was not expensive at all. I do not remember the exact cost of the transfer.
Rare KeithJenner Posted January 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2018 The cheapest option is probably by coach, which I believe you can get for about £5 from Victoria to Southampton. On the other hand, a taxi or other transfer is probably easiest (with luggage anyway), but will be quite expensive. In between is the train, from Waterloo or Victoria to Southampton. It’s a regular service, and quite comfortable these days. Obviously luggage could be an pain though. It’s a relatively expensive train journey (about £40 each of you pay on the day I believe, but if you book in advance then it can cost about £10, or even less. That’s certainly what I would do. Markanddonna Posted January 21, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2018 The National Express bus service provides inexpensive transportation to and from Southampton and London.
ozscotart Posted January 21, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 21, 2018 The fast train goes from Southampton central to Waterloo and takes an hour and twenty minutes , an advance ticket cost £16.30 booked ahead. This really is the best option, from Waterloo you can get pretty much anywhere! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
kirsty_r Posted January 21, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2018 depends on if you want quick or cheap - as others have said coach is cheap (national express, or megabus MAY go to Southampton) In which case you would need to stay near Victoria in London. For me i prefer the convenience of train, there is a quick train which is probably more expensive, but in my eyes is the best... I've never had a problem with luggage on the train. You may need to taxi from the train station to cruise terminal.

Rare KeithJenner Posted January 21, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 21, 2018 It can actually be a lot cheaper than £16.30 Just picking some random dates I’m seeing fares for £9.10 from Waterloo. If you aren’t in a rush you can book the Victoria train for £5, but it takes about 2 and a half hours. Just make sure you book something as it’s over £40 on the day. dos equis Posted January 21, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 21, 2018 I agree, take the train. Just know you'll then need to take a taxi from the train station to the cruise port. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk

Most people use taxis, but it isn’t essential (depending on which terminal). Personally, I would walk to all terminals except QE2. We always use the direct Southwest train from Waterloo to Southampton Central. Fast and easy. Probably not the cheapest, but you are in total control of your journey (i.e., if you get to the train station late, the next train is just 20 minutes away). Check the train schedules, some trains have more stops. Then it is a quick taxi ride over to the port.

Many people on Cruise Critic also recommend Smith's for Airports car service for transfers. We used them about two years ago to pick us up in Southampton and deliver us to the Eurostar in London (St. Pancras Station) and they were excellent and surprisingly inexpensive.
