shen61 Posted January 29, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2018 Looking into doing a Baltic cruise. Which cruise lines have the smaller ships? Want to be able to n avigate the archipelago into Stockholm and don't want to get diverted to Nynashamn. I understand that larger ships (NCL Getaway or Princess Regal/Royal) have a harder time navigating or going to Stockholm and it may also take longer to clear everyone from a larger ship in St. Petersburg. dsrdsrdsr Posted January 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2018 How small do you want? Fred Olsen and Cruises & Maritime both have several ships in the 700 - 1,000 passenger range.
GradUT Posted January 30, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2018 The Holland American ships that do the Baltic cruises are small enough to go through the archipelago into Stockholm (which is amazing thing to see!) If the HAL Eurodam is doing this route, book it!
Unibok Posted January 30, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2018 I've been looking into Silversea and Windstar lately. Silversea's Baltic ships are 250 (Silver Expedition), 300 (Silver Wind) and 600 (Silver Spirit) pax. Windstar's Baltic ships are in the 200 range (Wind Breeze). They are very tempting because they go places the larger ships can't. Happy hunting!
Desdichado62 Posted January 30, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2018 There also Viking Ocean Cruises.which are around 220m long and can take about 900 passengers. Their Baltic cruises starts/ends in either Stockholm/Bergen .
kitkat343 Posted January 30, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 30, 2018 The really small ships can also dock directly downtown in Helsinki at South Harbor, making it very easy to reach the main attractions there, since you are right by public transportation that can take you anywhere in Helsinki easily. Larger ships dock at West Harbor, which is 10-15 minutes away via taxi. We were on the NCL star and were very jealous of the silversea ship we saw dock directly downtown (actually we had a three year old who needed daycare, but this is a great way to narrow down choosing a baltic cruise if you can afford it!) melgirl Posted January 30, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 30, 2018 Have you had a look at Azamara? 670 passengers therefore would meet your requirments to get close in. We were on theQuest to the Baltic in 2015 and would highly recommend .

kaisatsu Posted January 30, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 30, 2018 Noble Caledonia has Baltic itineraries on the Serenissima (95 passengers), Island Sky (118), and Hebridean Sky (120). Ponant currently lists sailings on Le Dumont d'Urville (184 passengers) and Le Soleal (~250 passengers).

We're doing that for the first time in June, looking forward to the smaller ocean ship. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

Azamara Journey will be in Stockholm ( Vartahamen) 29th/30th June 2018, but if you are keen to book I wouldn't delay, as it is advertised as a World Cup cruise ( St Petersburg) You are expected to get your own tickets via FIFA though.
