I will be flying in so what is a good hotel that is within walking distance of places to eat/shop? I thinking Ybor City maybe?

We love Marriott Waterside or Embassy Suites downtown. Such a pretty area and you are right on the trolley line if you want to visit Ybor City

How far a walk from Baggage claim at Tampa Airport to where the hotel shuttles pick up guests?

We stayed at the Embassy Suites Tampa Downtown / Convention Center and enjoyed it. The trolley to Ybor City and other areas stops right out front. We used Lyft from the airport and to the cruise ship. It was cheaper than a taxi or shuttle. You could actually take the trolley to the cruise port, if you don’t have a lot of luggage and don’t mind walking a little from the trolley stop to the baggage drop off.

Is there anything to do at the Port area? Our flight comes in at 2:15. Any shopping or anything near the hotels there?

If you stay near the airport (Westshore) there's a larger "International Mall" nearby. Ybor City has some good dining options and nightlife - it can get busy/noisy on weekends. Rocky Point is a nice area to relax with several good hotel options and views of the Bay. Or rent a car and head to St. Pete or Clearwater (great beaches).

Many of the Rocky Point hotels offer cruise parking packages that include shuttles to/from the port.
