Upgrade at the last minute

If you're on a list for an upgrade and find out at the last minute, do they charge the whole difference in the price of cabins?

Upgrades come at no additional cost. Upsells charge for the better cabin.

My guess is that the OP is on the waitlist for a higher category cabin than the one they are currently booked in.

If it is the "last minute" then you are after final payment. Whatever amount the difference is would be charged immediately upon getting the new cabin assignment. My understanding is that if you are on said waitlist you have to accept whichever cabin opens up at whatever the difference in price may be (no way of knowing the cost in advance as you do not know exactly which cabin you will get: ie if waitlisted for a balcony you could get a BA, BB, BC etc. Thus once you plunk down the deposit to be placed on the waitlist you are firmly committed to whatever the offer ends up being).
