don't-use-real-name Posted August 15, 2018 #26 Share Posted August 15, 2018 Thinking of taking the Dawn next August. Does anyone have views from obstructed view cabins? Generally the obstructed view cabins are looking at life boats - some have a better view between two boats. Before you select a cabin from those that are offered - Google Yahoo YouTube the cabin number NCL 8xxx and see if there has been a video or photos taken of cabin and what is outside that port hole window. Another option LINK: https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/deckplans/cruiseline.php?line=Norwegian Click on the ship and then look over the deck plans. Take care in planning as to what is above your cabin selection and in some cases below (noise transmits upwards). Some times for a few dollars more you can get a balcony cabin without the obstruction or for less money get a full view window (Ocean View) cabin on a lower deck. An obstructed view cabin is nothing more than a Ocean view cabin with a view of the life boats hanging from their davits. Location above the Promenade deck. When walking the Promenade deck you can look up and see the sliver of viewing space that the Obstructed View cabins provide. Another thing to note if the crew are working on the life boats pull the curtains on the windows what can be seen looking out can be seen looking in. On the NCL DAWN the OB cabins are on deck 8 - use the link above click on deck 8 and notice the cabins forward of midship are in the standard configuration and those in the aft portion are SIDEWAYS cabins giving a bit more room in the cabin. You might consider booking the OB cabin to lock in a fare and then look/plan for a bid to a balcony when offered.
tidygirl Posted August 17, 2018 #27 Share Posted August 17, 2018 Just off the Dawn this morning. We had room 10011 3 nights cold showers ! Wasn't too happy about that after being Sandy and salty. They wouldn't let us get a shower anywhere else. This was cruise #20and their comedian, and magician show was really good! The Element Show I would say was the best we've seen in a LONG TIME! Don't miss them!
newmexicoNita Posted August 18, 2018 #28 Share Posted August 18, 2018 Have posted this before: this shows how subjective food is: we were disappointed in Los Lobos. Being born and raised in So. CA, living in Texas and New Mexico we thought it was far from good Mexican food. It was more like Spanish food and the hot sauce, even when we asked for really hot was more like tomato sauce to us. The guacamole was good. and for us, I think the worst was our expectations. Will we try it again? Maybe. On our next cruise we have 4 nights specialty dining plus we get 2 for being plat plus. With 6 dinners in upscale dining rooms on a 10 day cruise I think we should give them one more try.
eire_grl Posted August 20, 2018 #29 Share Posted August 20, 2018 Do not get a mini suite mid ship on deck 11. You will hear the loud pool music 5 nights until midnight. I just got assigned a mini-suite on deck 11 and am very concerned about the noise. I'm hoping to get it changed. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Well thanks for the info, a group of 5 couples leave on Thurs for a CA/Boston cruise and we are Mini Suites Mid ship Deck 11. I guess we will have to just stay out past 11pm. Problem solved. eire_grl Posted September 17, 2018 #33 Share Posted September 17, 2018 My cabin on deck 11 was right under the pool area and you could hear everything but with the daily schedule I knew exactly when to either join the party or be somewhere else to avoid it. It was a great cruise!
Girlloves2cruise Posted September 17, 2018 #34 Share Posted September 17, 2018 I was feeling a little concerned especially since I’m a new at home travel agent and booked this cruise with a group of friends. Thanks for the input, on your 11th deck rooms. Usually never an early night for us, so I don’t see this being a problem for us. don't-use-real-name Posted September 17, 2018 #35 Share Posted September 17, 2018 I was feeling a little concerned especially since I’m a new at home travel agent and booked this cruise with a group of friends. Thanks for the input, on your 11th deck rooms. Usually never an early night for us, so I don’t see this being a problem for us. Happy Sailing since I’m a new at home travel agent OK new TA here are a couple of the tools of the marketing trade: https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/deckplans/cruiseline.php?line=Norwegian Click on any of the NCL ships for an in depth look at how the ship is decked out. Click on a deck and see the cabin numbers and details related to that cabin. Browse around this site it is free and has a ton of information and pictures. You can take this one step further by buying a lifetime membership with the cruisedeckplans site ($25) then you can stack the decks in a feature called "Drag Decks" moving one deck over or under another to view what the problem or pleasure will be in a specific location. The membership includes most all cruise ship lines and not just NCL. Also note that using Google YouTube or other search engine you maybe able to see pictures videos and other descriptions of cabins and their location i.e.: https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=&oq=NCL+DAWN+9506&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4MXGB_enUS692US692&q=NCL+DAWN+9506&gs_l=hp...0.0.0.0.15112...........0.42vfE-WQDAM&gws_rd=ssl Using cabin 9506 for this example - substitute your cabin instead xxxxx Generally: Regarding noise areas on the DAWN on any cruise the Stardust theatre is prone to noise in the early evening and not too many cabins are located in this area to be of concern. Aft the Bliss Lounge operates into the late evening hours and has a great deal of heavy bass percussion instruments affecting the aft cabins on deck 8 and the perimeter port and starboard for about 10 or so cabins. As for the Pool Deck noise on cruises to Bermuda with the weather at night being cooperative the band can play on until late hours - however on cruises to Canada (those coming up or in progress now) the weather at sea at night can be chilling and the band will more in likely play in a warmer stage setting i.e. Bliss Lounge. Once you have had a few cruises it is not hard to figure out where the best and worst cabins are for comfort location and noise. Also try and locate one or more of the BIG BOX websites to compare notes on fares cabin sales perks promos and any other useful features for your clients. And then there is always CC here ! Nola26 Posted September 18, 2018 #36 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Quiet places: my cabin balcony or room, aft deck above the kiddie pool, thermal suite, library, wine bar Fun spots: Gatsby's lounge has a pianist/vocalist who tends to have themed shows, similar option in the Atrium Restaurants: enjoyed atmosphere at Venetian more than Aqua, but ate in both places more than once, Asian restaurant wasn't particularly special, but I enjoyed having the option, O'Sheehan's apple pie as a late snack, yum Pool: first time I actually used the onboard pool, on big ships I've just enjoyed Spice H2O water feature, liked the options of the outdoor grill Bimini and Topsiders
Oopsie Daisy Posted September 29, 2018 #37 Share Posted September 29, 2018 Thinking of taking the Dawn next August. Does anyone have views from obstructed view cabins? Obstructed view cabins are generally window cabins on the lifeboat decks, so you have a window that looks onto the rows of lifeboats and a deck walkway, rather than directly over the side. dcruiser50 Posted October 1, 2018 #42 Share Posted October 1, 2018 I've been on the Dawn 10 times, so here are my suggestions If you want to go to the veniceian her use the stern (rear) elevators To go to aqua use the central elevators To go to the theater use the bow elevators if you want to avoid the casino, central ones if you don't Quiet spaces deck 13 aft, and around and forward of the bikini bar Shady areas depends on what direction you are going and what time of day, covered seating and tables on the pool deck (12) port ((left side is smoking) right (starboard side is non smoking, take some time and explore the Dawn, and have a great time
Stinger-pr Posted October 1, 2018 #43 Share Posted October 1, 2018 Thanks Jill, I realize that but I know some cabins have less of an obstructed view than others and was hoping someone would post pics. I'm going to be on the Dawn for her first seasonal sailing from San Juan, PR on Nov.18 and currently have reserved cabin 8566 which is an OK obstructed view. It's one of the most forward cabins of this type and just behind the first lifeboat which happens to be much smaller than the rest and does not have the big canopy to cover it so there should have more viewing space towards the outside. If all goes well I'll be posting some pictures of the cabin along with a detailed review after the cruise.

Does the main dining room only serve breakfast on sea days? The last cruise I was on (NCL Sun), breakfast in the main dining room was from 7:30-9:30 am every day, and 6:30-10:30 am in the buffet. We only have one sea day on this cruise.
