Cruising questions from big people little world....

I am taking my first cruise Aug 31...8 glorious days on the Carnival Sunshine! On one hand I’m so excited it’s all I can think about...on the other “will I fit” is all I think about. I am a large female, wondering if I’m going to be limited as to what I can attend on the ship. Is the seating going to be tight for the shows? In the comedy club? Will I be able to sit in a chair and watch the Hasboro activities? Or am I better off not even attempting attending any of these types of things? There is nothing more heart breaking than to go to something like that with your family and you don’t fit in the seat. I would like to avoid that possible. Any inside advice on seating room/sizes would be very appreciated. Thank you in advance!!! :(

Is is usual for you not to "fit" in seats? A cruise ship, frankly isn't going to be any different. Some seats will have no "sides", but not in all venues/locations. You might want to look around prior to events. Other issue, sorry to say, is breakage. Again, some furniture doesn't hold up as good as some. There was lounge charge breakage on a recent cruise I was on.

While I haven’t sailed the sunshine, I did sail the Destiny amongst others.

I can only imagine perhaps the slides might have a size limit. I have had several large family members (300-400lbs) sail with me and they had no problem enjoying themselves. They were able to sit at the chairs during dinner. Some of the theaters have the seats that have a table already bolted at the booth, but often times there are the ADA parking spaces for scooters wheelchairs etc, where a crew member can bring a chair.

I remember the showers were pretty small but they had a curtain not a door. Other than those things, you should be fine.

Enjoy your cruise!!!

I am a large woman. I cruise every year. I know what you are talking about. I have never had any problems

sitting on most of the ship. I have a scooter so I tend to stay sitting in my scooter at most venues. Only place I

cant sit comfortable is at the bar in a stool. But i don't sit at the bar anyway. So I enjoy my cruise to the fullest.

You will be fine the shows have long couch like seating but it is only on the first floor so you have to get there early....I am a large woman and I go everywhere.. in diningroom you might have to ask for a armless chair or seat at the long couch like seating... go check it out and if you need to ask for special seating and they will help you. Dont worry cruise happy....

I share your problem and understand your concern. Let me assure you, I have never had a problem fitting in anywhere on the ship--no matter my size. Many seats are bench-style, so no arms to worry about. The exception might be the dining room, or Lido. The staff is more than happy to accommodate your needs as long as seats with no arms are available. This isn't anything to be worried about. Enjoy your vacation!

I'm a large woman, so I understand the concern.

The only places I've ever had REAL concern was the chairs on the balcony-I can't totally fit comfortably in those, they are a little too narrow for my hips. I can fit, it just isn't the MOST comfortable seat. The seats in the dining room are one of the other concerns-but you can request a chair without arms. I think that's a thing where you can just go to the dining room the first day when they have open time for table arrangements (it'll be in your Fun Times where and when to go) and request it. I've never specifically requested it, and there was always at least 1 armless seat already at my table, and I notice on every cruise that either through coincidence or fantastic dining room staff, armless chairs always appear where I was sitting at the table after the first night. Every other venue has a combination of couches and seats so you can select where to sit based on where you will be comfortable.

I will say this, I have never felt excluded or embarrassed because of my size on any cruise. The staff is incredible and will accommodate you however they can, all you have to do is ask if there is something you need to make you more comfortable. And by the way, this extends to the spa staff too. I have had some wonderful massages in the spa on the ship. Just relax, and enjoy your vacation with your family!

Use ‘Fluffy’ or ‘Obese’ in the search bar. Many threads pop up. Also look on the Disabled Cruisers board.

There are armless chairs in the MDR and buffet. If you have assigned seating your chair will be ready for you when you sit down. Could see the Maitre D ahead of time (1-3 at embarkation day) to arrange the chair.

Some will use the spa showers. Each cabin has several large blue pool towels, could use these instead of the white bath towels.

The public bathrooms are the most challenging. The average size person has to turn sideways in many of them.

It’s funny you should mention that. I have only used them once or twice on the debarkation day. Most times I just go back to my room.

But you’re right they’re very tiny.

Don’t worry I am too a big booty woman looking back at dining pictures the chairs had a like curved arm but not actual arms if that make sense. The only chairs I don’t like are the ones at the lido tables outside. You will be fine just go and enjoy yourself.

Had to laugh at those two posts. In the bathrooms by the casinos, the urinals are literally so close together that you rub shoulders with the person next to you.

If she has the fixed dining time then maybe she can email the maitre' d and ask for an armless chair ahead of time?

I have noticed that too- especially if they doors open inward. You kind of have to straddle to even get out. But that is a problem you will find anywhere.
