Obits Posted May 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2018 We’re sailing Saturday out of NY and cannot wait. My 11 year old would misplace his head if it wasn’t attached. Do kids get some sort of armband instead of having to keep up with a card to purchase things? What about room access? Thanks

SHIP TRAVELER Posted May 19, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 19, 2018 You can have the room card punched with a hole and if you bring him a lanyard so he can wear it around his neck. The stretchy things casinos give you work great. Guest services will usually punch a hole in the card for you. Lots of adults do this also so he won't look out of place. He would probably lose an arm thing anyway.
Obits Posted May 19, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted May 19, 2018 RCCL out of NY? Do you mean NJ? Sorry yes New Jersey. We’re flying up a few days early and spending time in New York so I just keep calling it New York. But I still have the same question. Thank you

Thanks If it's the Anthem out of Bayonne, NJ they wills sell you a Wow Band that can be used to get into your cabin and to charge. It cannot be used to disembark/embark. The cost is $5. Don't think that kids get it gratis.

But somebody mentioned above that the armband may not stay on very well?
champagne123 Posted May 19, 2018 #8 Share Posted May 19, 2018 Our friends on the Anthem, one of them developed a wrist rash from it. Not sure if its worth the $5. You still need a card to leave and enter the ship. I guess the only good reason to have it would be to get soda's? Not sure what else...my kids are adults. hapster85 Posted May 19, 2018 #9 Share Posted May 19, 2018 RCCL out of NY? Do you mean NJ?To an out-of-towner like myself, that's a distinction without a difference. Just like my family has always said my great aunt lives in Chicago, even though she's actually 30 minutes away in Lombard.

rubytue Posted May 19, 2018 #11 Share Posted May 19, 2018 We are not speaking of two different cities/towns. Many states have the same name for towns. ...we are speaking of two different STATES....Big difference. 15 miles on surface streets. The width of the Hudson by boat. Significant difference, sure, but not a practical difference. And certainly nothing that matters for the question When traveling, I work in DC. I don't. I actually work in Maryland, about 12 miles outside the beltway. Most people who come on vacation to DC don't stay in DC. They stay in Virginia or Maryland. Same difference. Of course I also live pretty close to Baltimore, but claim to be from Annapolis when traveling ;):')

The newer ones are a pain in A to buckle it stays until you take it off. The original ones given gratis on the Quantum had a buckle like a watch and easier to put on/off. That said, it does make a bit of a difference with travel plans, including costs.

I appreciate your help thank you On Anthem they won’t punch holes in the seapass card as it has a RFID chip embedded in it. You will need a lanyard with a plastic sleeve to put the seapass card in if you want to go the lanyard route.

I´m not a fan of the WOW bands, but I can see it being useful for a kid. They can wear it like a watch and it will be much harder to lose than a lanyard. In addition they (hopefully) won´t leave the ship on their own, so they don´t need it for that and the parents can have the seapass on hand for this purpose. My guess for the kid it´s the main purpose to open the cabin door and maybe get some sodas, so perfectly fine. I don´t know about the Anthem, but on other ships kids get free lanyards from Adventure Ocean, but I don´t know if they do this on ships with RFID embeded cards, as they can´t easily be punched without destroying them. Heck, we've got 2 football teams ( Giants & Jets) who for all intensive purposes are NJ, but their NY logo on their helmet says otherwise. Also, in the summer months, we got those NY hogs messing our roads on their way to our fine beaches.:D

SRF Posted May 20, 2018 #20 Share Posted May 20, 2018 It only matters to those who live in the area. Like the other poster, when outside the area, I tell people DC. But I actually live closer to PA and DE than to DC.
nelblu Posted May 20, 2018 #21 Share Posted May 20, 2018 Or Jersey Strong. Hey, with our bulldog attitude (Christie, etal), we just beat the crap out of the 5 strongest sports complexes (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL & NCAA) by winning the Sports Betting in the Supreme Court. Also, took a Jersey Guy (Alito) to write the majority opinion.

hapster85 Posted May 20, 2018 #23 Share Posted May 20, 2018 My cruise documents refer to Cape Liberty, NJ (NY Metro). Enter New York City into a flight search, and Newark airport appears. Yeah, it's two different cities, in two different states. And of course that distinction is important to those who live there. But to the outside world, it's one big place.
