... He was upset that Celebrity took it's passengers where there were earthquakes. He actually said "Celebrity should have known". Does he honestly believe that Celebrity knew that there was going to an earthquake that day at that time? I don't even think the earthquake specialists with all their high cost equipment knew.

We found the earthquake to be an adventure. Is that not the reason we travel?

Living in an area where we experience some pretty bad and/or frequent earthquakes, I can assure you that you are correct. There is no way to predict when an earthquake is going to hit...otherwise, we'd all have time to get out of harm's way when the shaking begins. We are all surprised by them when we have a quake that is over 3.0.

Plus, when I think of Hawaii, an earthquake is not the first thing that comes to mind even though I am well aware they can and do happen there.

I do have a pretty good story from this trip. I was at the guest services desk. I overheard a man yelling at the poor guest services attendant. I couldn't help overhearing since he was yelling. He had taken the volcano excursion thru the ship earlier that day. He wanted a full refund. He was upset that Celebrity took it's passengers where there were earthquakes. He actually said "Celebrity should have known". Does he honestly believe that Celebrity knew that there was going to an earthquake that day at that time? I don't even think the earthquake specialists with all their high cost equipment knew.

How crazy. We were also on the cruise. Our trip to the volcano park and the earthquake was the highlight of our trip. Fair enough that at the time it was a little scary, but once you returned safely it’s one of the best vacation stories you’ll ever have.

Greetings, We were on the Solstice too (actually on for 6 back-to-back cruises from March 5 to May 18, 2018). Since we live in San Francisco we are rather use to earthquakes, and even in Hawaii we have felt them at times. This time we were at the Kilauea volcano during the earthquakes. I was shooting video and still photos of the puffy white steam pouring out of the largest fissure when the third earthquake hit. I was moving side to side but kept the video running and could also hear a lot of people behind me yelling, "it's another quake, and this one feels much larger". I panned around to get some video of these people and their expressions, but unfortunately I had a long lens on so at first I only saw the people from the neck down to their knees. Then as those folks moved away and more people behind them came into view I got video of their faces. The audio that was recorded during this larger quake was great since there were many people talking about how this was their first times feeling an earthquake - and to experience three of them within a short time, and while at the volcano. Also when I panned back to the volcano to keep shooting video I started to notice the puffy white steam was turning a deep shade of brown. I also could see new fissures opening and steam was starting to vent through them too. By the way... I was standing as close as allowed to the volcano rim when all this was happening, so I had a great view of the area and the people out there.

Our bus driver / guide was great, and she had lived in the area most of her life so she kept very cool and told everyone that she would not leave anyone behind if we needed to evacuate the area. Her husband and daughter kept calling her with updates about the earthquake(s) and roads problems as we left the area. At one point they told her not to take a road that had reports of possible sinkholes starting to appear. She told us that our group was probably the last group to be able to visit that area that day, since her husband had told her the park officials were about to close everything down.

Again since we live in San Francisco, and had experienced the 1989 quake (also magnitude 6.9 and many smaller quakes since then) we were not as surprised as many folks out there that day. Of course in SF we don't have active volcanoes during earthquakes! Not yet anyway. While I was shooting the video I did need to stop and think that I wasn't on the Solstice so why am I moving back and forth so much, but I figured out within 30 seconds what was really happening! Experiences like these are what we like about cruising around different parts of this earth. On our extended cruise trip (almost 6 months total) from December 9th, 2017 to May 23rd, 2018 we did a total of 10 cruises that started in the Caribbean, then Florida to Sydney, AU. Then all around Australia, New Zealand, many South Pacific Islands, Hawaii and Alaska... so we got to experience so many great places along with extreme weather and sea conditions during our journey. We have been very lucky to have been on 56 cruises (and counting) since 2008, and 33 of them with Celebrity. Guess this makes us "Celebrity Groupies" too!

Wanted to come back and tell everyone I heard back from Celebrity. They gave us a $300 future cruise credit for the bug problem. Not equal to the sleepless nights and my skin crawling but I can't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Happy cruising everyone!!!!
