Mosquito situation in Jamaica

If you have traveled to Jamaica recently (or Cozumel or Grand Cayman) what is the mosquito situation like? Is regular bug repellent suitable?

No, the storms last year bred super mosquitoes.

 

They don't bite you right away. They carry you off to dine on later.

Have been to Jamaica several times and have never encountered a mosquito, but I never go into the jungle. I have heard the ships PA system calling out passengers names before departure. Perhaps... SRF... is onto something

In November we did the tubing excursion. I had no less than 12 bites. It was awful.

Disclaimer- I react horribly to bites and get welts the size of half dollars, so I may have an altered memory. But, I did count my bites after that day and had no less 12, so be prepared

It’s Zika territory so wear bug spray. You don’t want to get sick.
