How is cell service in Mexico?

Verizon now covers Mexico. Does anyone know how the cell service is in Cozumel or Costa Maya? Expecting an important call (or at least a message) while on the cruise.

We have Verizon and we had great service in Cozumel and Progresso. I have an international plan that charges me $5 a day when its used.

I have the unlimited plan with Verizon so all my calls, texts and data were free in Cozumel. The coverage was fine

The coverage is fine as long as you stay on the west side of the island. East side there is no power therefore no (or at least its very spotty) service

The phone and internet service is really good at Mr. Sanchos beach resort. We always go there while in Cozumel. They have excellent free wifi service. I get to check my messages, emails, etc. And they have an awesome all inclusive for only $55. Unlimited cooked to order fresh hot food from the restaurant, huge pool with swim up bar, beach toys, unlimited alcoholic beverages (all types,not just rum punch or beer) your own dedicated waiter, and a beautiful beach. I wish I was there right now.

Cozumel is on an island east of the Yucatan Peninsula. EM

Cozumel is an island with a N, S, E, and W side. San Miguel de Cozumel is the largest city on Cozumel and where the cruise ship piers are.

 

The East side is the wild side with less development.
