arzz Posted June 25, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2018 Cruise shopping and wondering - on Seabourn's Caribbean cruises - how often do they use the marina platform? What water toys are available to use when the platform is available? Thank you in advance.
GGS Posted June 25, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2018 Cruise shopping and wondering - on Seabourn's Caribbean cruises - how often do they use the marina platform? What water toys are available to use when the platform is available? Thank you in advance. We were on a Seabourn Caribbean cruise in April and the marina would have been used at the private island stop which was cancelled due to rough seas. We all thought it could have been used during one other port later in the trip but was not. So not a sure thing. jenidallas Posted June 26, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2018 I have yet to be on a sailing that used the marina platform for its intended purpose. That includes 20 nights in the Caribbean and 3 private island days.
margbem Posted June 26, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2018 On eight Seabourn cruises we have used the marina about four times but in the Adriatic/Med, never in the Caribbean. The beach barbecues there seem to take the place of the marina. Sent from my iPad using Forums
cariad1000 Posted June 26, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2018 We didn't get the marina platform or the beach barbecue, so neither are certain in the caribbean.
Isklaar Posted June 26, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 26, 2018 I've taken many SB cruises in the Caribbean, the marina wasn't used on any of them, only on Mediterranean cruises and it of course depends on weather/sea conditions and port. I wouldn't hinge my decision to take a cruise with Seabourn on it.
dalliowner Posted June 26, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 26, 2018 9 cruises , 135 days, have seen the marina once on the Spirit in the Med years ago. I really think Seabourn should stop advertising it so prominently .
arzz Posted June 27, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted June 27, 2018 Thank you all for responding to my question. On the beach days are there water toys available? Specifically what water toys?
T&C Fulham Posted June 28, 2018 #9 Share Posted June 28, 2018 In four years of cruising I have never seen any marina deployed as you see in the brochures. On the Seabourn caviar in the surf days they sometimes take some of the kit to the beach. However it will be weather dependent. The first one we did could not start until lunchtime because of storms. The second had to be abandonned after lunch so we could get back the boat safely. Again. Ignore the repeated pictures of flat calm sandy bays in the brochures. Yes it can be like that - sometimes. Isklaar Posted June 28, 2018 #10 Share Posted June 28, 2018 On the beach days are there water toys available? Specifically what water toys? As Tony said above, it's dependent on conditions but they usually have eg canoes/kayaks, pedaloes (pedal boats), banana boat rides . Snorkel equipment is always available on Caribbean itineraries, not just beach bbq/Caviar in the Surf day. Again. as much as I enjoy Seabourn I wouldn't book a cruise based on a marina or beach day. Most of the time the weather and sea conditions do co-operate but sometimes they do not.
markham Posted June 28, 2018 #11 Share Posted June 28, 2018 Another point worth mentioning is that local authorities decide if the marina can be deployed. That’s the bottom line. Happy and healthy sailing!
DUHCAR Posted June 28, 2018 #12 Share Posted June 28, 2018 Been on three cruises. Had marina day in Caribbean and South China Sea, not on the one in the Baltic.

SLSD Posted July 2, 2018 #14 Share Posted July 2, 2018 We had a Marina Day on a cruise last September (1997) in the Mediterranean.
SLSD Posted July 4, 2018 #15 Share Posted July 4, 2018 That should have read: we had a Marina Day on a cruise last September (2017) in the Mediterranean. I forget which port.
