Copenhagen - Royal Family Watch

Recommended Posts

We are going to be in Copenhagen August 30 and have been planning our day to see various Danish Royal residences. Just read that Queen Margrethe may possibly be abdicating some time in August and passing the crown to her son Frederick. Also noted that Christiansborg Royal rooms are closed to the public from August 23-30. Really wanted to see them, but not this time I guess:( Anyone know what all this may mean or are the rooms closed for another occasion? Are we going to be landing right in the middle of a multi day Royal celebration? Cannot start to comprehend what crowds will be like throughout Copenhagen. Would be incredibly great to see all the goings on, but everything else such and Amalienborg will be jammed or off limits too. Very much good news, bad news:confused:

Do not know what's going on 30th - probably closed due to France's President Emmanuel Macron coming to an official state visit in Denmark on August 28th-29th visiting Queen Margrethe.

Very sure that Queen Margrethe will not be abdicating in August - if abdicating at all.

Make sure not to miss the noon guard change - and possible follow the guard from Rosenborg castle through the streets towards Amalienborg.

That is exactly what we wish to do but somehow fell over this

No idea what type or validity this publication has, but it seemed to line up with the Christiansborg closure. Thanks for the information, it clarifies things a bit for us. Appreciate your help:)

Only speculation - same speculation in Danish tabloid press - for sure not in August 2018.

Enjoy your day in Copenhagen

If time permits - take the Canal Boat Tour

Kind of what we thought. Suspected there would be a whole bunch more information especially in the Copenhagen news papers if it where true. But the match up with the Christiansborg closure made us wonder. Since it appears the Queen will be "home" at Amaliensborg we should see the best changing of the guards routine. Thank you all for your input, appreciate the clarification.

New Idea also known as No Idea in Australia. Wouldn’t believe anything it prints.

It happens every now and then that the Royal palaces are closed. One have to remember that these palaces are where the Royal families live and or work. Sometimes they have official/private arrangements that means that the palaces will be unavailable for the public.

Maybe they "made up" their story in correlation with the closure of Christiansborg. It was just to coincidental for us. Ripple effect was massive crowds, various pieces of crown jewels and crown not at Rosenborg, etc., etc, all aligning with our single day there. Thanks again for everyone's help and clarification. Calming effect for sure:):)
