DukeASUGirl Posted July 9, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2018 I'm curious how this works. How much OBC do you get? How do you get it? If you didn't mention it in your original booking (because you were not aware), can you add it later? If so, how long before you sail?
naxer Posted July 9, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2018 (edited) You do not need to mention it at your booking. I usually notify Carnival about 2 month before my sailing. If you google "Carnival Shareholder Benefit" there is a link to a PDF that spells it all out. This is part of it: SHAREHOLDER BENEFIT Onboard credit per stateroom on sailings of 14 days or longer Onboard credit per stateroom on sailings of 7 to 13 days Onboard credit per stateroom on sailings of 6 days or less NORTH AMERICABRANDS US $250 US $100 US $50 CONTINENTALEUROPEBRANDS €200 €75 €40 UNITED KINGDOMBRANDS £150 £60 £30 AUSTRALIABRANDS A$250 A$100 A$50 The benefit is applicable on sailings through July 31, 2019 aboard the brands listed below. Certain restrictions apply. Applications to receive these benefits should be made at least three weeks prior to cruise departure date. This benefit is available to shareholders holding a minimum of 100 shares of Carnival Corporation or Carnival plc. Employees, travel agents cruising at travel agent rates, tour conductors or anyone cruising on a reduced-rate or complimentary basis are excluded from this offer. This benefit is not transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash and, cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account. Only one onboard credit per shareholder-occupied stateroom. Reservations must be made by February 28, 2019. bobandsherry Posted July 9, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 9, 2018 Interesting, I have never done it that far out.I had 4 cruises booked, so submitted all at same time. One declined with notice from Carnival that date was outside their processing window. My request was May 2017, email from Carnival stated "The shareholder benefits are currently only applicable to sailings through 07/31/2019", so actually was slightly over a year. Perhaps it varies by time of year. Sent from my LG-H872 using Tapatalk
CruiseMomTX Posted July 9, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 9, 2018 Once you fax Carnival the info how low does it take for the credit to show up? Do they email you? Where does the credit show up on your booking? Thank for any help.

If applied for too far into the future I can see why they would turn it down - they would be assuming it would be renewed prior to it actually being voted on. This is correct, It has historically been renewed in March or April for a period of Aug 1 thru July 31 of the following year.
Sparky2 Posted July 9, 2018 #11 Share Posted July 9, 2018 I do a PDF file of my broker statement with everything blocked off except my name and my 100 shares of CCL. I then email it to guestadmin@carnival.com. I sent it on 6/8 (Fri) and received email confirming that it had been applied to my cruise on 6/12 (Tues). It took longer because I sent it over the weekend - late Fri.

VegasMark Posted July 9, 2018 #14 Share Posted July 9, 2018 I just did a request last week and was told by email I could not get the OBC because I booked under a discount. I've had this problem with RCL, but never with a Carnival owned ship. I asked my TA, and he said it was a new policy. I replied to the email to ask if it was a new policy, and the response was an apology and to disregard the last message, and the OBC was issued. I don't know if the first person made a mistake or if they just gave me the credit because there is a new policy, but because the booking was made months ago they grandfathered me in. Anyone else have this experience? Sent from my SCH-I545 using Forums mobile app

You can click the hyperlink provided on this page for details about CCL's shareholder benefit. This shows the breakdown of credit amount by cruise length and how to apply based on which CCL brand cruise you've booked. The credit must be applied for after your booking is made, and generally speaking, a month or 2 before sail date seems to work well and is sufficient. Many have reported that free cruises, such as free casino offers, do not qualify for the credit. YMMV. I have had success in that case at times, but also have been declined the credit other times on free cruise offers. http://www.carnivalcorp.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=140690&p=irol-sharebenefit Hope you enjoy the dividend CCL stock also pays. skiorcruise Posted July 10, 2018 #18 Share Posted July 10, 2018 I have never had a problem getting the shareholder credit applied to my cruises. On several cruises, I have not had any response from Carnival saying that the credit had been applied. On those occasions, I have taken my statements with me to show the customer service desk, but have never needed to do so. Credit has always been applied. DallasGuy75219 Posted July 10, 2018 #19 Share Posted July 10, 2018 My experience with casino rates is that they will give shareholder OBC on Premier rates but not Pack & Go rates. There's not much you can do if denied because the rules are vague--the offer excludes "anyone cruising on a reduced-rate fare" but doesn't define what specific fares are and are not included. Technically pretty much anyone booking a fare other than Fun Select is on a reduced-rate fare. I've never had the nerve to request shareholder OBC on a free cruise. VegasMark Posted July 11, 2018 #21 Share Posted July 11, 2018 I'm not sure of the rate code, but it wasn't casino related and nothing much better than the rate on Carnival's website. As mentioned, I never had an issue either until this request. I'd be curious to hear reports from anyone who has made the request after July 1st.
