FishinChris Posted August 10, 2018 Author #26 Share Posted August 10, 2018 We had purchased tickets for Hamlet at the Shakespeare's Globe Theater before we left. We would have spent more time in Portsmouth but had to get back to London. Once back at the Waterloo train station we took the tube 1 stop to Southwark and walked to the Swan for dinner before the show. The Tate Modern Art Gallery. The Swan has a special menu for theater goers so that you don't miss the show. You can also order food and drinks for the intermission while at the restaurant. There is a nice view of Saint Paul's Cathedral from the restaurant.
FishinChris Posted August 10, 2018 Author #27 Share Posted August 10, 2018 You can take pictures while in the theater but not when any actors are on stage. We were sitting in the top tier, we recommend you rent the seat cushions your derriere will appreciate it. The view over the river Thames looking towards Saint Paul's Cathedral when we left the play. We felt ok so we decided to just walk to 2 miles back to the hotel. Not taking a political stance just observing the local graffiti at the South Bank skate park. We did miss the Trump visit by a day. Diver2014 Posted August 11, 2018 #45 Share Posted August 11, 2018 Just wondering.....since you had Oyster cards, why not take the Tube from Heathrow into central London? That's what I always do.....unless you had too much luggage to cart yourselves. It's £6 per person.
PonyPair Posted August 11, 2018 #46 Share Posted August 11, 2018 Just wondering.....since you had Oyster cards, why not take the Tube from Heathrow into central London? That's what I always do.....unless you had too much luggage to cart yourselves. It's £6 per person. This trip was a bit of a splurge for us, and having a car service pick us up was one of the indulgences we really enjoyed. We did have a large pice of rolling luggage and a carryon each. I would not have liked to wrestle that much luggage for a tube trip. It is very nice, after a 10.5 hour flight, to have a driver holding a little sign with our name on it waiting for us. Our trip to Scotland and the isle of Skye next year will be a bit different, and we will be packing everything we need for two weeks in carryon backpacks. If you travel like that, taking the tube would be completely doable. Fishinchris’s DW Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare geoherb Posted August 11, 2018 #47 Share Posted August 11, 2018 Great to see more photos from you. We were on your British isles cruise last year. We're going back this year, too. We leave in three weeks for five nights in London before catching the Royal for its trans-Atlantic. Sam said no to walking the steps up the monument. I'm not sure he's up to a full Shakespeare play, so we may take the tour of the Globe instead. Looking forward to seeing more. Our cruise stops in Bergen. I hope yours did too so we'll get ideas about what to do there.
