FishinChris Posted August 12, 2018 Author #76 Share Posted August 12, 2018 Corridor Welcome to Stavanger. We booked all our excursions through Princess. We booked Pulpit Rock Hike for Stavanger. There was 3 big buses full of cruise passengers that left the ship. We had to take a 45 minute ferry ride to get to our destination. Lots of photographers on the ferry. We have arrived at the parking lot.

FishinChris Posted August 12, 2018 Author #78 Share Posted August 12, 2018 The hike to Pulpit Rock is no joke. I hope you can get an idea what it is like through my pictures. People of all ages were doing this hike some even without shoes. Its not an impossible feat but due to the time restrictions for getting back to the bus on time there's not much time for catching your breath. It took about two hours to get all the way up and almost the same for getting back down. The trail is narrow in some places where people get bogged down going in both directions. Also a lot of the rock stairs are steeper then your normal 7" stair risers and that's a lot more pressure on your knees hopping down onto them as my wife found out later. The views were spectacular! Up, up we go.

Rare Coral Posted August 12, 2018 #81 Share Posted August 12, 2018 I am enjoying your photos! I was on the Sapphire Norway 14 night in June and loved it. I spent a few days in London before hand but wasn't in the "London mood" for museums, etc... I hope you make it up to Norway for a 14 night because after doing that, I wouldn't settle for a 7 night. I am also glad I did the Pulpit Rock boat ride and not the hike :) For those who didn't know this - Pulpit Rock is in the new Mission Impossible movie. You can pull up trailers to see it if you don't want to see the movie. Looking forward to more of your pictures!
FishinChris Posted August 12, 2018 Author #82 Share Posted August 12, 2018 Group 1 down, hopefully they only lost their sticker and not their will to go on. Dammit were still going up! At least we didn't have the sun in our eyes. Must be getting close. No spaceships or Tee Pees allowed.
FishinChris Posted August 12, 2018 Author #83 Share Posted August 12, 2018 Finally in sight of Pulpit Rock! It is a long way down. I couldn't get my wife to pose near the edge but plenty of other people were hanging out all over the place.
FishinChris Posted August 12, 2018 Author #84 Share Posted August 12, 2018 Of course we had to get our selfie as well. Just not near the edge. Before we left the bus for the hike the tour operator gave us a bag lunch and a bottle of water. They gave us instructions to eat the lunch when we get to the top which we did. This is the Norwegian Kit Kat Bar. Also in the bag was a ham sandwich with an apple. I like people in my photos, they add scale and remind me of what it was like when we visited. FishinChris Posted August 12, 2018 Author #85 Share Posted August 12, 2018 We had maybe 20 minutes before we had to start heading down. You don't want to miss the bus. That's right we're going up to go down.
FishinChris Posted August 12, 2018 Author #86 Share Posted August 12, 2018 There was a few ponds near the top that people were swimming in. Going down, down, down This is about the halfway point.
FishinChris Posted August 12, 2018 Author #87 Share Posted August 12, 2018 The parking lot! There is a zip line at this point and I was tempted to take it the rest of the way down but did not. It was a beautiful hike on a rocky trail with awesome views. Ferry ride back to the ship. Stavanger I hope you get a feeling for what it was like doing this excursion through my photos and if you go please share your experience as well. Next up will be Olden. Mapu Posted August 12, 2018 #88 Share Posted August 12, 2018 Great pictures! It looks warm. We are packing for London and then the 14 night cruise that leaves 8/18. How far north do you go? One more question, is it true that there are now kettles in each cabin? Thanks.
FishinChris Posted August 12, 2018 Author #89 Share Posted August 12, 2018 (edited) Great pictures! It looks warm. We are packing for London and then the 14 night cruise that leaves 8/18. How far north do you go? One more question, is it true that there are now kettles in each cabin? Thanks. We cruised the fjords in south western Norway, we did not go to the arctic circle as the longer cruise does. We did not have a kettle in our cabin. olsonfive Posted August 12, 2018 #91 Share Posted August 12, 2018 FishinChris - loving your trip report and all your pics. We were also on this cruise - actually met you and your wife in van on way to Southampton before going to Stonehenge. It's great reliving the cruise with your review. We did the fjords cruise in Stavanger - we were looking up at Pulpit Rock so enjoyed hearing and seeing from on top. Thanks! One more question, is it true that there are now kettles in each cabin? Thanks. We did the 14 night version upto the Artic Circle in August 2016 on the Emerald. We did not have the fantastic weather that FishinChris had. In fact, we got stuck in Stavanger overnight and missed Flaam which was really disappointing as the train journey there was going to be a highlight of our cruise. Still had an amazing time overall though. Norway is spectacular come rain or shine. (We did have some beautiful sunny days too.)
