bobbyprez Posted August 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2018 Your bank can exchange dollars for Euros. I just purchased 1500 Euros for $1824 last week for a med cruise in two weeks. It takes a couple of days Sent from my iPhone using Forums

littlelulu01 Posted August 19, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 19, 2018 Least expensive is to get out of an actual bank machine using your debit card once in Europe. My bank doesn’t charge a fee so it’s just a straight exchange. Some atms charge a couple euro fee per withdrawal. Most expensive is to exchange on the ship. They offer the service as a courtesy but charge handsomely for it. If you’re uncomfortable arriving without local currency, check with your bank. My bank offered, “free” exchange but the rate was terrible. Just checked and going rate today is $1.14 which is really good. Your local Travel X store might be the best bet if you want to arrive with euro in hand. They do have a fee but it was much less $ than my bank. I had to budget a little time waiting in line just because we only have one Travel x store in my city so about a half hour wait. They’ll also buy back what you don’t use at a better rate than the airports.

Son of a son of a ... Posted August 19, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2018 Check your bank’s fees and exchange rate. AAA may work. I like to land with Euros in my pocket and don’t trust ATMs to work everywhere every time. Additionally, I think there is a monetary limit on ATM withdrawals

NancyW12 Posted August 21, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 21, 2018 Get 50 E at the airport to get you out of the airport and then the rest at a bank ATM in town.
pe4all Posted August 21, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 21, 2018 We always get our euros from our local bank. (Chase) Takes 1-2 business days to get them. We have never used an atm in our lives, so that option was out for us! $1,000 U.S. got us $798 euro.
The Other Tom Posted August 21, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 21, 2018 Best exchange rate is an ATM in Europe Second best exchange rate (and perhaps the most convenient ) is your bank Third best...acutally the worst, is a manned currency exchange booth. Baseball fan Posted August 21, 2018 #15 Share Posted August 21, 2018 I review a map of my arrival airport and look for bank ATMs. I take a smaller amount from there and then find one later in the city, as needed. Your best rate is bank ATM but you need to weigh the fee charged by your bank (many banks have fees). Sent from my iPad using Forums
