Rare Norwaylady Posted August 20, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2018 Hello all Azamara travellers We are elite on X. We are looking into the 15-n Egypt, Jordan & Oman cruise in october 2020. Has anyone done a similar cruise on Azamara before? We are celebrating 10 years wedding anniversary and would like to celebrate it. Normally we take a cruise on X in the med to celebrate the day. We really would like to try Azamara, and we think that the right timing could be 10years celebration.
Mimippsb Posted August 20, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2018 We have done this cruise itinerary on Seaborne and it was wonderful. Azamara will not disappoint you on this cruise. Go to Petra and if the shop goes to Safari, definitely take the excursion to Luxor.
Grandma Cruising Posted August 20, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2018 If that’s the Athens (Piraeus) to Dubai Cruise, I’d say go for it! We have done that route on Azamara 3 times and just love it. The first twice we chose it because we had had new knees ( my husband the first time & me the second) so lots of relaxing sea days suited us very well. We went the third time so we could do 2 ‘bucket-list’ tours. From Safaga we took an independent tour to Luxor & the Valley of the Kings and from Aqaba we took a ship’s tour to Petra. Both were wonderful. For the Luxor tour we booked with Your Egypt Tours who were great (and less than half the cost of the ship’s tour). Muscat too is interesting. You can take a tour round the town on the Hop-on Hop Off bus, or get the ship ‘s (free) shuttle to the Souq or take a tour further afield. Even the sea days are interesting as they include the time spent going through the Suez Canal. Just one warning though- there is heightened security from getting into the Red Sea to Muscat. That means you have to have your stateroom curtains closed after dusk, and there is a security team onboard who are all big chaps, exSAS. There is an extra drill on what to do if pirates attempted to take the ship (very, very unlikely - the ship is too big and has too many crew). It doesn’t spoil the cruise at all - in fact in some ways it adds to the interest. We liked watching the guys getting onto the ship along with their very large ‘equipment’ bags and it was interesting having a chat with them about their work - they love being on cruise ships, rather than on tankers etc. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare Norwaylady Posted August 20, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted August 20, 2018 Thank you for the answers:) Yes it is the Athens to Dubai cruise. The Suez Canal is on the wish-list to husband....
cruisingaussies Posted August 22, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 22, 2018 We’ve done this itinerary twice and loved it. We plan to do it again! Whilst there are the (appreciated) precautions against possible pirates, on one of the cruises the Captain had his wife and children on board. That tells you how ‘dangerous’ it is! Quite agree, we never felt worried. Sent from my iPad using Forums
excitedofharpenden Posted August 22, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2018 I’ve been through the Suez four times on Azamara and love it. Lots of sea days. It can be quite hot at times. Probably not so bad in October. Heightened security makes it interesting. Going to Petra if you are fit is a must when you are in Aqaba. Safaga and the Valley of the Kings near Luxor and Temples of Karnak is breathtaking. It’s a shame you don’t have longer in Salalah. Getting out to the coast there is very beautiful. Do it! Rare Norwaylady Posted August 23, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted August 23, 2018 Do it! Phil We are really thinking hard about it......:confused::confused::confused: The security situation is not a concern for us. We feel that they have it under control. And that Suez Canal is probably better on a smaller vessel, then on X (since the ship is larger).
hennesseystealth Posted August 26, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2018 I hope the entertainment is better than it was on the Dalmatian cruise on the Quest we just finished. We didn't have any sea days but could imagine some issues if we did.
