We will be arriving in Venice at 9:30am and are wondering if we should book a water taxi in advance. Has anyone done this and is it necessary. THX

no its not necessary to book in advnce-there is a regular supply!

at the water taxi desk at airport you may even find other people you could share with if you are in similar locations

how many in your party?

I assume you know the cost is about 100 euros

there are cheaper alternatives such as land taxi/coach to P Roma if your hotel near there

or Alilaguna slow shared water taxi

where exactly is your hotel

do you want the experience of water taxi all to yourselves?

Our hotel is the Danielli and we are fine sharing a water taxi. But since we are in Venice, we thought that was a cool way to arrive at the hotel....I know it is more $$ but we are just looking for the experience.

I agree it is a good experience to get to venice and go for it

Check with the hotel to see if they have a pick up service. I stayed at the Regina a few years back. They had a package that they meet me at the airport and took me to my water taxi and the water taxi took me to the hotel. It was a little pricey, but what an experience. Especially if it will be your only time there. To get to the cruise port I arranged for a water taxi when I depart the hotel. It took me to the cruise port. Got to live it up sometimes.

When we did, and booked ahead and I think there was a discount for doing that. I had my print off, and it was just one less thing to negotiate once we arrived. It is a wonderful way to get into the city, would definitely recommend it however you book it.

We will also be staying at the Danieli for 3 nights arriving Oct. 14. We are at the Danieli this time since the Europa & Regina is under renovation and is unavailable.

As we have done 3 other times before, we had the hotel arrange a private escorted transfer where we will be met at the airport by a representative with our name who arranges porterage for our luggage to the water taxi which takes us to the hotel. This is valuable to us due to our age and excess baggage, also the convenience of having the cost included in our hotel bill. We will then arrange for a taxi to take us to the ship. It is quite pricey, but is an excellent way to arrive.

There isn’t room for taxis to wait more than a few minutes at the dock. You go to the desk in the arrivals area and they call one in for you and give you a voucher with the taxi’s number on it. You pay the operator.

So will the private taxi operator only take Euros or will they take a credit card?
