Conshydot Posted August 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2018 Hello, we are first time travelers on Oceania. We just got an email with a what to wear section. In that section, for women it lists cocktail dresses or skirts and tops in the GDR and Specialty Restaurants...no pants suits or dress trousers. Women can’t wear dress pants/trousers? Mura Posted August 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 30, 2018 No, of course they can! I do it all the time! Not jeans or super casual attire, but dress pants are fine. (Or even not so dressy.) Mura
CruisingIGo Posted August 30, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2018 You can wear dress pants or nice capris to any dinner venue. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Classiccruiser777 Posted August 30, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2018 News to me. My wife and our cruising neighbor always wear “dress trousers” to the specialty and GDR restaurants without issues.

Tansy Mews Posted August 30, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 30, 2018 The FAQ says Recommended on board clothing is resort or country club casual. For evening dining, elegant casual resort wear is suggested. We request that casual jeans, shorts, t-shirts, baseball caps, or tennis shoes not be worn in the restaurants after 6 PM. Baseball caps may be worn in the Terrace Café after 6 PM. The FAQ has been updated. https://oceaniacruises.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/
Conshydot Posted August 30, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted August 30, 2018 This is from the What to Pack blog linked to a Welcome e-mail Women’s Packing List As you may know, Oceania Cruises has an elegant casual dress code. This simply means you should pack: • Cocktail dresses or skirts and blouses for The Grand Dining Room and specialty restaurants • Blouses and nice shorts for evenings at Terrace Café • Sundresses – great for transitioning from day to evening with a wrap or cardigan • Casual shirts and tank tops to pair with shorts, capris or comfortable pants for excursions • A light cardigan, pashmina or wrap, especially for dining and ashore • Small clutch or crossbody bag. I think somebody at Oceania has to cross check documents.

Tansy Mews Posted August 30, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 30, 2018 I would go by the FAQ. It shows a recent edit date. (3 months ago) https://oceaniacruises.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360005474533-Is-there-a-dress-code- See Dining. Not sure I have seen a cocktail dress, whatever that is! Cruseforme Posted August 30, 2018 #14 Share Posted August 30, 2018 Just curious do you have a link to the blog where this is posted I looked on the O blog but could not find it What’s funny, is that I found it last night, exactly as put in above by the OP. Today, it’s not there! At least I can’t find it anymore. It was dated June 2018. Hmmmmmm. Maybe I am searching differently. If I find it again, i will link to it here, but it was the Oceania blog itself, and not a TA site. Very odd, not to find it again.

Cruseforme Posted August 30, 2018 #16 Share Posted August 30, 2018 Yes, that’s it! I was going nuts trying to find it! Yes, it is a suggested list, but to an Oceania newbie, coming from an Oceania Blog, it may look official. IMHO, it confuses the already muddled issue. I wear dress pant all the time Have not worn a skirt or dress in years we just sailed in July & no issues Thanks for the reply. We too are first time Oceania guests and if this were really the case, I'd cancel immediately. Haven't worn a dress since being injured in an auto accident several years ago. Absolutely...I would even say intimidating to those who want to give Oceania a try. It is, however, towing the company line as it matches the ritzy photos you see in the glossy brochures... ;)

Tansy Mews Posted August 30, 2018 #21 Share Posted August 30, 2018 I wouldn't pay attention to the blog. It is only marketing-speak. People dress nicely but not "cocktail dresses". Hardly any wear sports jackets or blazers. Just ignore it. HOWEVER, I do think that the staff who do the blog should talk to those who set the overall policy. The list in the blog is off-putting! It's not required, but you'll see some pax generally kick it up a notch if dining in Jacques or La Reserve.

Mura Posted August 30, 2018 #25 Share Posted August 30, 2018 Ever since the beginning it's seemed to me that most men do NOT wear ties, jackets/blazers/sports coats, etc. Some do, of course, and are more likely to do so in one of the specialties or La Reserve. Since one of the big selling points for Oceania passengers is the lack of formality (nicely dressed but not formal), I doubt they'd gratuitously shoot themselves in the foot this way. It does appear that not everyone who publishes information for the company considers their words carefully enough.
