Kiwi_cruiser Posted September 20, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2018 This is our first time visiting Puerto Chacabuco, Chile before. I was wondering what would you recommend doing here for the day?? If you have been to Puerto Chacabuco before, what did you do here for the day?? Also does the cruise ships dock near the city? or do we dock a long way from it? Any ideas / suggestions are very welcome
Lunenburg Posted September 20, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2018 We took a ship's tour to the Coyhaique National Reserve through the Simpson Valley. We stopped into the National Forest and visited a small town where there were crafts for sale. Beautiful scenery, mountains and waterfalls. We stopped for free drinks (wine and soft drinks) and snacks. A lovely day. I don't recall seeing much around the port. Do not think it can be describe as a city. There are only about 1500 residents there.
Rare TiogaCruiser Posted September 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted September 21, 2018 In 2013 our RollCall did a shorex with Enpatagonia. We visited a couple parks, back country and had lunch at a family farm. It was an excellent trip. http://www.enpatagoniatours.com/destinations

There are only about 1500 residents there. Yeah, definitely not a city. Not even much of a town with absolutely nothing to see or do there. Other than pretty scenery once you get away from the port, there is nothing within 50 miles. Best bet is to take a tour which will drive you around to see the scenery, or, to save quite a bit of money, use the local bus system to see the same thing for around $20 pp. There are detailed instructions in several posts in this forum on how to catch the buses. happy1000 Posted March 22, 2019 #7 Share Posted March 22, 2019 We just completed a visit to Puerto Chacabuco on the Royal Princess. We booked with enPatagonia Tours & had a fantastic tour. Yes it rained a little as expected, but the best part of the tour was a visit to a small Chilean farm that was hosted by Don Carlos, Senora Juani & family. The lunch & Chilean dance show was fantastic..they even encourage the members of my independent tour to join in with the for a dance. This was NOT your typical excursion that has the ships' large buses arrive with hundreds of people....32 people max with 2 vehicles (14 & 18). Create your own group or book with others. Our tour was the 5 & 1/2 to 6 hr tour with plenty of time to get back to the ship in time. See their website: www.enpatagoniatours.com. EVERYONE in our tour group said this was the BEST excursion on our 2019 South America cruise. Their hospitality, food, drink & show was something that we'll always remember. This is truly the "diamond in the rough" that you won't forget.
