How much slower is non o3b? Will a non O3b surf and stream internet package be really enough to stream movies?

It's about the same in speed, but much slower in real world performance (due to much higher latency).

Yes, most of the time.

Each service has an Stream bandwidth limit of 5Mbps for a guest device. However O3b can handle many more data streams and has a much lower latency. In other words, you are much more likely to get your 5Mbps on an O3b ship than on a non-O3b ship.

Thank you.

I thought about switching to surf only since surf and stream might not be able to realistically support watchable streaming but I think i will stick to the surf and stream plan and hope for the best.

My issue the last time on Grandeur earlier this year was that the connection kept cutting out and that was not normal. If the connection was stable, I could have easily watched a lot more movies and shows off of Hulu and Netflix. Surprisingly, these apps adapt to the slow speed quite well. Playing by itself is not an issue. Its the initial buffering that takes longer than usual. Also, if you tend to like to fast forward through certain scenes, or scrubbing, this also is annoyingly slow because when you do that, it has to buffer again, but if you hit play and let it go, you can usually watch things without any issue whatsoever. (like trying to skip the intro of the show). Its probably better to just let it run, then try to skip it and waste time rebuffering. You should lower the quality to minimum while using the system though.

That’s good to know. Thank you.

Bob or anyone else, is it true that they turn off the ship Wifi when in Port?? Just want to make sure because that is what I heard. Also, if they do that do you have to use your personal phone Wifi if you don't find some in port, aka on an excursion??

Thanks in advance!

No, the ship's WiFi is always on in my experience.

They do turn off the ship's cell service while in port.
