Adult on pullman / upper berth on Adventure of the Seas

Hi everyone.  A little less than a week ago I booked a last minute cruise via a casino offer on Adventure of the Seas.  There are three of us going.  I'm in my 40s and the two other ladies are older (60+ and 70+).  When I called to see if there was a room available for 3 they said yes, only one, an interior.  I've never stayed in an interior room.  Since it was the only room (and only sailing that worked for my vacation days for my cancelled Aruba trip) I booked it.  Then I changed my flights (love Southwest btw) and booked their flights.  I assumed that we had an interior cabin with a sofa bed.  Searching for information about the ship, and our cabin, it appears that we do not.  On the deck plan for our deck (8) we have a light blue cabin with a cross symbol. This symbol means pullman beds.  It also looks like we are in a little hallway of interior rooms.  I feel a little duped because the casino agent at Royal, who knew all of our ages, did not tell me that it was a pullman.  I think she she should have mentioned it.  I called RC to see if we could pay to upgrade to a different room and we can't, nothing is available.  They told me to go to guest services when we arrive.  I don't know what they'll do if there are no rooms.  Since I'm the youngest and probably most able to climb the stairs I'm probably going to be stuck with the pullman.  I'm a little claustrophobic but I'm hoping it won't be too bad.

Does anyone have experience sleeping on this bed as a middle aged adult who is well, let's just say not in the best shape and has a few pounds to lose?

Can I put the ladder on the side of the bed to climb up, or do I have to get in the bed from the end?  I'm very concerned how that would work if I have to climb up the foot of the bed, and shimmy myself up there.  How much space is between the bed and the ceiling?  Am I going to feel like I'm in a tanning bed?

I'm not here to bash Royal Caribbean and under no circumstances do I expect a free upgrade or anything like that.  While I think I should have been told, I'm going to try to make the best of it.   I'm going on a cruise!!  :classic_biggrin:   I'm hoping someone can help ease my mind.

Thank you!   The bottom picture doesn’t look so bad.  It even looks like I’d be able to sit up there. Is this on Adventure or is the set up the same fleet wide?

It's certainly identical on Voyager class ships, and both of these photos are from Voyager class ships.

I would agree that they are all pretty similar.  My kids (college aged at the time) used them.

One thing I would recommend is a night light in the cabin and everyone agreeing to keep the cabin floor cleaned up. Makes it much easier for nighttime bathroom use. If you don’t want a night light, I know some people don’t like them, at least keep a flashlight under your pillow. Interior cabins can be very dark.

Thanks everyone.  I feel a little better about this room.  Maybe we can keep both beds set up and use the other side for storage.

Grandma Dazzles I'm going to try to remember to take a flashlight.

I slept in an upper berth a few years ago when I traveled with my mom and my sister. My sister and I are supposed to switch in the middle of the cruise, but I ended up there all week (long story filled with sisterly drama.) I was in my 40s at the time. It really isn’t too bad. I thought it was comfortable enough and I didn’t feel claustrophobic. There is even a little night light up there. My biggest complaint was getting up to use the restroom. I almost always have to go at least once per night. It was a pain to climb down the ladder in the middle of the night.

Recently, I have been taking battery operated voitive “candles” and use them as nightlights. They give off just enough light and one usually lasts the whole week. Maybe you could leave one on the desk and one in the bathroom. I think that would have helped me with the upper berth.

Edited to say that I also requested a duvet for the upper berth instead of the blanket pictured in previous posts. It made the bed much more comfortable.

Yeah it's not really bad. We did it with Me, Wife and a  2, 4 and 8yr old. The 8yr old was assigned to Grandparents room on paper but stayed with us, 2yr slept in Mom's bed. Was on Enchantment 20yrs ago but setup was same with lower beds apart...
