Help me create an outfit, part 1

New acquisition:  an Ann Taylor miniskirt covered with black, grey and white faux feathers (wispy threads).  I could not pass it up.  I'm thinking it needs a plain black sweater, black tights, black boots. Any other ideas?

I agree that with a skirt that has a lot of visual interest and textural detailing, a plain sweater will look best with it.   But I think it could be in any of the colors of the skirt.  You could then pair it with the black tights and boots as you're thinking, or maybe sheer stockings and black or gray suede pumps

A strong color in a nice blouse would look nice too - maybe an emerald green, plum, or rust/orange.  I like tights for the fall/winter, but pulling either the grey from the skirt or the color of the shirt might be good too instead of the black.

 

If you stay neutral in the top you could add a punch of color with your jewelry too.

Jewellry, definitely needs something to add particularly if a neutral plain top.  Sounds like something you can really play with for dress up and dress down.

Agreed.   Ex. pair the skirt with black tights and boots, a gray sweater, and then a large pendant necklace in a really bright color like teal, cobalt or fuschia.
