We then headed to Casco Antiguo or Colonial City. It was founded in 1673 as a replacement for the previous capital which was destroyed two years earlier during the English Pirate Captain Henry Morgan's attack.

I didn't know so I did a quick Google and this is the answer.

The monument shown in the photo in the December 2014 issue is located in Panama City's Plaza de Francia (French Park), at the tip of Casco Viejo, the city's colonial neighborhood. At the top of the obelisk, built in commemoration of those who died during construction of the Panama Canal, is a rooster, France's national symbol. Smaller monuments, each topped by a bust of a prominent French explorer, surround the obelisk.

Sounds like you may not have time but someone last night told me that there is a fantastic World War II museum in New Orleans.  I'd never heard about it.

We were at the Marriott 2 blocks down from Bill. We did spend the afternoon at the WWII museum and it was fantastic. Every aspect of the war was covered. There are 4 buildings to go through, we never saw everything, you need to spend the whole day there, not just a half. From Canal St you take the #12 bus on Magazine St all the way down to the museum. The concierge tried sending us by streetcar but there's construction going on so we had to shuttle. For $3 pp you can get a 24 hour transportation pass. We rode the streetcar out to Celebration of the Oaks at City Park and we rode the entire St Charles line from end to end, all for $3.

Sorry I meant to stop back in here earlier. We spent the weekend in the hotel. Marie had a fever during the day on Saturday which finally broke towards the evening. We stayed in the hotel right up to check out 11 am on Sunday than spent Sunday afternoon in the airport and flew out 6 pm Sunday. We are both feeling marginally better, nothing I hate worse than a winter cold.

Thank you to all that followed along. Next trip is a week on Symphony starting January 19th. I do not plan to do a live report, the lack of a working app to post was a pain that I do not want to put up with during my Jan birthday cruise so I will just publish a report after we get back, Sorry,

Glad to hear are both feeling better.  It’s never fun to be sick, especially while on vacation.

I hear and understand you not wanting to go live on your birthday cruise. We sail late January on Allure and I am hesitant to go live again, without the app.  My last one wasn’t terribly hard to do, it just not as easy as when there was an app. Who knows, maybe by then there might be one.  🤞

Thanks for bringing us along on this great adventure.

Considering how much you have been bounced around since exiting the canal, I would bet that you will feel a dramatic difference once in the river.  Happened to us on Voyager after a transatlantic.  Very eerie that the motion stops all of a sudden and you look outside and see the shore so close.

Listen closely for the banjo music in the distance.:classic_wink:

I could tell immediately when we started up the Mississippi River.  I actually  got a good night's sleep.  I went out on my balcony, but did not hear any banjo music, lol!

Bill, I'm sorry you and Marie got  sick at the end of the cruise.  It happened to a lot of people.  Every time I felt as though I were catching cold, I took Airborne, accompanied by a Zicam.  I did not get sick, just saying -- it worked for me.

Linda, Dennis, and I stayed at Homewood Suites, and we also got checked in early.  The hotel treated us well, I would recommend it.  We walked around the French Quarter as far as Jackson Square, and had a late lunch.  Very enjoyable!

Thanks again for the great live review, and for the tours you organized!  See you January 19!
