This is scary for people who have made bids.  Royal might be upgrading people who bid for a higher price than those who don't make bids.  Plus, those who go from a non-suite to a suite don't get extra points, but those who upgrade for the web price get extra points.  When someone makes a bid, they better be checking prices constantly.

Pretty sure we discussed this a while ago. Might have been in the other UP thread

Yep, I think they're banking on the non-educated passenger to think Royal-Up is their only way to go, sigh.  And by non-educated, I just mean CC-educated - those that tend to know to book, check, check again, etc on all things - excursions, drink packages, rooms, etc!

Yes my RoyalUp offer to go from an OV balcony to a JS is $150 pp ($300)  The price dropped this past weekend and I upgraded myself for $180 total for 2 to a JS. So I will get the double points and got to pick the cabin

Now I wouldn't mind getting a well priced Royalup offer to go to a GS

Congrats on finding the deal yourself and nabbing the extra points - fingers crossed you now get a new Royal Up to keep bidding higher 🙂

I received my 2nd "reminder" to upgrade.  I have a 2 bedroom owners suite and they are offering the Royal Suite starting at $200 per person.  I am guessing they want my suite to maximize their profits?  I don't want it because we really want the separate rooms but still have the suite benefits for everyone.

It has nothing to do with "wanting your suite" -- I was in a lowly inside room on a completely sold-out ship, and I still got two Royal Up offers.

It's a completely automated system, and it has nothing to do with rooms actually being available.  They're just trying to see how much people will be willing to pay, and also have a ready-made list of people in the rare event of a cancellation at the last minute.

Think of it as an opportunity to possibly pay for a room that may or may not ever be available, rather than as what is normally considered to be an "upgrade fairy".

Are you saying that the regular upgrade price might be less than the minimum RoyalUp bid?

Yes that is kind of what happened to me.  For our upcoming Serenade cruise I had a superior Ov balcony...the old D-1 hump cabins.  After final payment I got a Royal up offer to move to a JS, GS  or the old Concierge lounge now 2 bedroom 2 bath OV suite.  I bid on all 3, then did some price checking on my own.  Although the opening bid on the JS was $100 pp, I could upgrade myself to a JS GUARANTEE  booking for $200 pp.  Yes it was more than the lowest bid but I would get the double points that I would not get on the Royal up bid.  I nearly passed out when we were actually assigned cabin 1054, the old Concierge lounge.   No balcony but I think I can handle it for the extreme extra space.

I'm thinking this whole RoyalUP thing might be affecting price drops, and not in a good way for us.

Hello, so I received two emails for the royal up program for a sailing in May. I put in a bid for one of the room types offered, then a few days later I upped my bid. Today I was planning to bid on another room type, but I cannot. It shows Not eligible for upgrade. I also can no longer edit or cancel my previous bid, it just shows as Pending. Anyone have a similar experience.

Yes, if you cannot change your bid, then it is no longer valid.  You should be able to cancel and re-bid or change.  Trust me, I had numerous tech support calls and emails about this...

I have been checking prices daily. Our GS on Allure for June went up 740 dollars overnite with the new "sale" We have not received a Royal Up offer yet, but there are 39 suites above the GS level available. Inflating the price may make the Royal Up look like a deal when it really is not.

NCL does the same thing.

Interesting, had not thought of it that way.  Sort of like raising drink prices so that the beverage packages seem like a good deal.

All prices should have risen with this new "sale" since it went from 30/30% off (60%) to 50% off-  They should be 10% more than they were March 31st

Thanks. Can't cancel or modify my bid or even get to the screen that shows other room types. Perhaps, they are just not offering upgrades for my sailing anymore.

I agree, I'm thinking now you jump on a price you like - and mainly watch if prices come down to make a move on your own and/or bid through this process.  I get it though, they'd rather keep the money expected given the price everyone initially agrees to, and only get more revenue by people switching up cabins or bidding.

This would hold true if there were an actual "base" price. I check every day, saved $650 at one point using the same "sale", residency, discount, etc. under which I booked. Royal has no set price that they discount from. The "base" for another cruise we are taking in August has fluctuated by several hundred dollars.

It sounds like you received a Royal Up email before this one where you bid on a JS and the bid was accepted? My apologies if I missed that post....

Actually I did receive a RoyalUp offer prior and they wanted $150 pp to upgrade from an OV balcony to a JS.  I noticed that the price on the JS dropped last weekend and I went ahead and upgraded myself to a JS for aroun $180 total for 2
