SAS21 Posted December 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 11, 2018 How does this work? Our TA from Copenhagen stops in Miami before we disembark in New Orleans. Do we go thru in Miami or New Orleans?
Rare BirdTravels Posted December 11, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 11, 2018 (edited) You will clear immigrations at your first US port. Edited December 11, 2018 by BirdTravels
bonvoyagie Posted December 11, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 11, 2018 If it is done like on the Canada New England cruises where you stop at Bar Harbor prior to the disembark in Boston the C&I agents come onboard and check your passport/ID and then put a sticker on your cruise card indicating that you have passed. Declaration forms and luggage are checked at your final destination. So yes that day we had to have our passports checked and that night we filled out the forms for the next day - such a waste. casofilia Posted December 11, 2018 #4 Share Posted December 11, 2018 I would agree; Immigration the first port in the USA, Customs at the debarkation port.
mugtech Posted December 11, 2018 #5 Share Posted December 11, 2018 After going through the Panama Canal on the Sun we all had to get off the ship in the first USA port, LA, even if we had no desire to see LA.

If that was a port at the end of a cruise and you were doing B2B that would be why. When arriving at a debark port in the USA the ship has to be cleared of all passengers even if you are B2B. SAS21 Posted December 12, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted December 12, 2018 THanks for the responses. So we may or may not have to leave the ship.
bonvoyagie Posted December 13, 2018 #8 Share Posted December 13, 2018 You will not be allowed off the ship without going through immigration and showing you passport. Someone else spoke of B2B cruises and having to clear out the ship - that seems to only happen in US ports - on our B2B to Canada we turned around in Quebec - and actually arrived on Fri and left on Sat. On Friday they embarked the new passengers and those of us on a B2B had the option to leave or not. We had a tour set up on Fri and so we wore our "In Transit" stickers so we could bypass the check-in process and board the ship directly.
