Sunseeker810 Posted December 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2018 I am new to Holland America. I went on a very small ship through Urcomped. Now, I have been offered a free cruise directly with the line. Do you get free drinks in the casino or anything else? I can't seem to find much information. I am platinum with NCL, but their fees are getting out of hand. Maybe change is good?
VideoTech Posted December 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2018 A couple of quick web searches reveals that Holland America is owned by Carnival, and uses their casino players clubs. Link below. https://oceanplayersclub.com/

dznymom Posted December 30, 2018 #5 Share Posted December 30, 2018 I have done a couple casino cruises on HAL, and did not get free drinks in the casino (except a few times from the host). I am a pretty low roller though, so others may get them. Some of their casinos are so tiny, I hardly play and still get the offers. I have been pleased with the deal, overall, and I really like that they have more interesting itineraries than NCL and some of the other lines. si4444 Posted December 31, 2018 #6 Share Posted December 31, 2018 (edited) I'm a regular NCL at Ruby level and a platinum guest. I enjoy top shelf liquor and some nice perks with NCL. I tried HAL rottendam last Jan for a two week cruise. The casino staff were friendly but there was no drink comp cards. I had to keep begging the hosts for comp drinks which I did receive starting at maybe the second day when they watched me play. Again friendly hosts and dealers but tight on drinks. Now they do offer what they call VIP cruises where you will get comp drinks in the casino and from the casino bar. I have yet to try this. I'm booked for one in July 2019 in Europe. But I was told the regular comp cruises don't expect an influx of comped drinks. Scott Edited December 31, 2018 by si4444 Missed word
EZ1 Posted January 1, 2019 #7 Share Posted January 1, 2019 Princess is the same way-no free drink card & once in a while, the pit boss will comp you a drink at the table. Princess & Holland are both owned by Carnival. BUT Carnival DOES give you the drink card on their cruises! And all three are IN the oceanplayers club! Sunseeker810 Posted January 1, 2019 Author #8 Share Posted January 1, 2019 Well, I booked the Nieuw Statendam for the end of February. They only charge for taxes and fees ($147 each) for this trip. No "service fee" like NCL. Great time of year to get out of New England!
EZ1 Posted January 1, 2019 #9 Share Posted January 1, 2019 What are the service fees on NCL? We've only done casino freebies on Royal, Carnival, & occasionally Princess- where none of these have service fees-only pay for port chgs & ins. (Havent done NCL since they started freestyle). Holland & others we were on in the past. On Holland & Princess, many turned in early at nite, so not much going on late-except the casino of course. We enjoy Royal & Carnival the best. Sunseeker810 Posted January 1, 2019 Author #10 Share Posted January 1, 2019 The extra fee is $120per person. NCL is a lot of fun, but I don’t like having to pay the fee.
