Carnival Casino "Free Play"

Recommended Posts

We have just gotten off 20 days on a Princess ship and played quite a bit in the casino (couple of nice jackpots as well).  We have offers of casino Free Play on our next cruise in February - in the past they have always given us chips or cash.  Can anyone explain how the "free play" option on your cruise card works.  I am assuming that the money goes into a "casino account" and when played the winnings go into our casino winnings pot.  Can anyone verify this or tell me how it works ?

That is exactly how it works.  Say you get $500 in Free Play, when you put your card into the slot machine the screen will show how much is in your Free Play bank and how much is in your Player Bank.  You can cash out your player bank at any time.

Hi memoak, I think it depends on the ship.  We got the Free Play offer on our last 2 cruises.  We cruised on the Grand out of SF.  Their casino is not set up for the free play so we received the offer amount in cash.  Just go to the cage in the casino and they will take care of it.  Good luck!

Up until last year we always just got the cash - free play last year and to between the 2 of use we have a total of $1,400 in free play to use on a 4 day cruise in February.  Guess we will be spending quite a few hours in the casino on that trip

If you play slots: the Free Play is loaded on your account, and you have to play it through the machines... you can't just cash it out.  Winnings get put 'behind' the free play, so it gets played first.  You can cash out the winnings any time, just not get $$$ for any unplayed value.

If you play tables, they give you ridiculous super-sized Fun Chips.  The chips can be placed on even-money bets only. If the bet loses, the chip goes away.  If it wins, they pay the win, but take the Fun Chip (it doesn't stand for another play).  The Fun Chips can't be exchanged for cash.

You can have the free play split between table and slots, if you like, but it's not cash like in the old days.

We are about to book a 4 night cruise but found a better price than the casino offer.....the casino offer comes with $50 freeplay.  My question is.... if we don't book under the casino code, are we still able to get the $50 freeplay?

Thanks so much in advance!

You would have to ask the casino department but I would doubt it.  Of course it never hurts to ask

Does anyone know, Do you rack up points while spending your Free play?

Highly unlikely if it's played as chips at the tables as it's not real money. On the slot/vp machines, you can tell by looking at your points as you bet the free play to see if they increase.
