Dublin; Hop on Hop Off bus

We will be in Dublin on a Sunday and sailing on Oceania.  Has anyone done the Hop on Hop off trolly's there.  Is the stops near the cruise boats and can you buy tickets on the bus?  Our cruise has terrible tours in Dublin, this looks like a good alternative.

we took the Red HOHO  but picked it up in Dublin  near O Connel St  & paid  right at the bus stop

there was a rep  there to buy tickets  from

it  was a few years back so not sure if they now go to the port

Any idea how far from town the cruise dock is?

Not sure where your ship will dock but the larger cruise ships dock at Alexandra Quay (about 1.3 miles from the city center).

Some ships dock at Dun Laoghaire (these are usually tendered) and it is about 8 miles to the city center. If this is the where your ship tenders, you can easily take the DART into the city (runs at 15 minute intervals). The train station is located just a few minutes from the port.

Below is a link to Google view of Dublin Port:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/53°20'42.1"N+6°11'35.4"W/@53.3509629,-6.2467791,13z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d53.3450177!4d-6.1931777

Looking south along the coast, you will see Dun Laoghaire

My guess is that Oceania will offer a shuttle into the city center regardless of your docking location. I would check with Oceania.

There are just a few ships that use Dun Laoghaire - here is the schedule for 2019:

Although subject to change, here is the schedule for Port of Dublin:

https://www.dublinport.ie/information-centre/cruise-liners/

Not sure what your interests are in Dublin, but would recommend seeing Kilmainham Gaol (the historic jail.)

http://kilmainhamgaolmuseum.ie/ That said, you need to purchase tickets in advance.

Also recommend the Guinness Storehouse connoisseur experience.

Enjoy Dublin & Ireland - such an awesome place!

Can you tell what you are going to get before you get on?

ask the driver before you get on-he will tell you if it is live or when next one will be along

or if you realise you are on one with recorded commentary get off at a stop and arrange to catch next one

It appears that the Dublin Hop-on Hop-off bus has two routes.  Any recommendations for one or the other (red route or blue route)?

It looks there are at least two HoHo bus companies.  One looks like it has only one long route (Green buses) and the other has the two routes you speak of (Red Buses).  We are thinking of taking the Green busses only because of that long route.  We hope someone who has been there has some input as well.

The best hop on hop off tour (with the driver actually speaking, not a recording) is run by Dublin Bus, the city's public transport provider.

This is their page: https://dodublin.ie/city-sightseeing-tours/hop-on-hop-off-24-hour

If you like you can get your tickets online, but you need a printed voucher, not an image on your phone.

Your cruise will probably have a shuttle to the city centre and you can meet the hop on hop off in O'Connell Street, or you can get a taxi.

Cool Cruiser,

Do you know how long the green bus is if you ride the whole route without getting off?  Sometimes we like to ride it through one time and then go back around and get off at the stops we want.

Thanks for any advice.
