Back to back cruises on two different ships?

Has anyone booked 2 back to back cruises on two different ships? (A 3 day and 5 day on the Magic & Dream). 

 

Is there anything we should consider? My hubs would love to visit Castaway Cay twice. I think it would be a pain to pack up and embark onto another ship.

Currently it would be very rare to have two DCL ships in port on the same day.  It does happen with Carnival at PC and Princess at Port Everglades.  On DCL, you'd usually get off, go to a hotel overnight, and reboard the next day.  You are right, you would have to pack up, take everything with you, and disembark.  DCL does offer cruises that make 2 stops at Castaway Cay.  That would certainly be easier if that is the goal!  They are often called "Double Dip" cruises on these boards.

Typically, two cruises one after another, on different ships is called side-by-side.    Not truly a back to back, since, as noted, it would be rare that two Disney ships will be in port, embarking and debarking passengers on the same day.

 

How much of a pain to pack up and move to another ship depends on how much you pack.  For a 3 plus 5 night combo, you don't really need a lot of clothes.

If you want to do Castaway Cay twice without changing Disney ships, there are only two options: 1) look for "double dip" 4- or 5-night Bahamas cruises (usually only offered in the summer when they occasionally do a 5,5,4 rotation); 2) Do a true back-to-back on either the Dream (4-night+3-night Bahamas), or Fantasy (7-night Eastern Caribbean/Western Caribbean). There are also a few short cruises that do double dips when Magic repos into Port Canaveral (which is getting more rare each year).

 

We did, however, get a surprise double dip on Disney Magic once when a hurricane turned our scheduled Eastern Caribbean cruise into a Western, and they couldn't get a pier slot in Key West so we did CC on both the first and last day of the cruise.
