mlbcruiser Posted January 11, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2019 (edited) I should know the answer to this. Maybe I've forgotten since I don't really like to do it much anymore. How many formal nights on an 8 night RC Caribbean cruise? (Clarea, I bet you know this one!) Thanks for any replies. It was interesting on the Adventure of the Seas over New Years, there were two formal nights. The first sea day, which was NYE, and the last one. This was a six night cruise. Since we did specialty dining, I don’t really no how formal it really was.

How you dress for them now varies much more than in the past. On a a couple of ships formal nights have been replaced with Dress Your Best
mlbcruiser Posted January 12, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted January 12, 2019 We’ve noticed formal nights aren’t so strictly observed anymore as they once were. OK by us! When I was 20 years old and on my first cruise on the old Emerald Seas, the croupiers wore tuxes. The female croupiers wore long black dresses of varying styles. Very elegant! I loved it! Our ship overnighted in Nassau & we visited the Atlantis casino. (Pre aquarium & water slide days). Most patrons dressed up a bit then, with croupiers in tuxes as well. Those days are long gone and so is my youth. Therefore a Guayaberra shirt for my husband & not having to bring along a special pair of dress shoes, handbag and other accessories is my preference. In the olden days one did not have to worry about luggage weight or how many bags they brought along. Times have changed . Don’t mean to turn this into one of those ongoing arguments about whether they should keep formal nights or weather everyone not dressed formally should be banned from the main dining rooms. Since we generally make sure we are fairly appropriate with regard to whatever is called for, knowing that we can dress in a more relaxed way is best for us. I thought I saw something not long ago about Celebrity having relaxed their formal nights but had not seen anything about Royal Caribbean. However we were on the Harmony last year and I believe my husband did not wear his tie but wore a jacket to dinner on formal nights. If anyone knows definitively that Royal Caribbean has relaxed the formal policy, please post! Thanks for the input!

Many still do but it is not required.
jdg623 Posted January 12, 2019 #9 Share Posted January 12, 2019 We've noticed that people in the Diamond lounge tend to be more dressed up than other passengers on formal nights. Not everyone for sure, but we see it more when we're in the lounge than when we're walking around the ship.

mlbcruiser Posted January 13, 2019 Author #11 Share Posted January 13, 2019 We are diamond members too. I’ll have to pay attention next time I’m in the diamond lounge but I know I have seen people more casual than we are at times in there as well.
