Hey All

When on our cruise we are stopping at the port Nassau from 10 am to 6 pm. If we do NOT want to do an excursion can we go visit atlantis? Is it in walking distance and do they charge a fee to look around and see the sights?

I honestly do not know much about Atlantis so sorry if this is a dumb question

Without some level of day pass, you will not be able to see much of Atlantis beyond the casino (no kids)  and Marina Village/   You can pay for an aquarium pass, a beach pass (which includes the aquarium), or the Aqua adventure pass, which includes water park, pools, beaches and aquariums.  Dolphins are additional, and do not include beach or pools.

Security will stop you from entering the lobby/

Do I purchase that at the Atlantis like lets say we just want the Aquarium (Cause the Casino and Marina we will see but no charge for that) Is the aquarium worth it? Or do I purchase it on the ship? Also is it in walking distance? From the Nassau port? And is it safe? I read you get buses over to there but what if we want to break off can we walk back safely no problem to the port?

Resort for a Day has an excursion called "Discover Atlantis" for $49 per person.  You can go to their website and read the details and reviews of this excursion. You would have to take a taxi there and back- the fare is $4 per person You can also buy this at Atlantis but I think the cost is the same

My main concern would be getting left there. We are looking at the aquarium excursion cause that is our type of thing then we still have time to look around city. Our preference is to walk around it alone though and not with a tour guide that from what I read is hard to hear anyway and people get separated quite a bit anyway. What if we miss the ride back

Last time I went there was a water taxi ....

"it’s as simple as walking off your cruise ship, hopping on a water taxi and enjoying a 20-minute ride over to Paradise Island. This self-guided tour is a perfect sightseeing tour alternative."

Just be aware that the only "free" areas at Atlantis will be the casino and restaurants. Without purchasing a pass you will not be able to see the aquariums or the dig or walk around the grounds.

Our biggest thing is we dont want to be bothered by pushing vendors we on our honeymoon not interested in our short visit their to deal with that. I do not even go in stores at home with sales people who don't leave you alone.

You might be interested in a food tour that got a wonderful review on this thread. Go to page 2 and look at a post by CruisinCrow for "Food and Walking Tour with Tru Bahamian Food Tours" If you are with a small group on a tour no vendors will bother you and you will get some history and some good local food. Whatever you decide to do have a wonderful honeymoon and first cruise!

Just hop in a taxi.

You don't need to worry about missing your ride back.  There are tons of taxis at Atlantis to take you back to port.  I would leave by around 4:30 though, in case of rush hour traffic.

I would not say Atlantis is within walking distance.  But taxis are cheap ($5 for a shared van) and plentiful.

If you do the aquarium tour, you don't need to stay with a group or a guide.
