I was on Explorer of the seas out of Bayonne in close to blizzard conditions, and muster was moved indoors because of snow and ice on the promenade decks. Apparently they do have a plan B. robc1972 Posted January 15, 2019 #6 Share Posted January 15, 2019 Not sure why any still do it outside. With all the lounges and other areas inside it would be a lot easier to do them inside. Just scan the cards as people come in the doors like RCL and MSC have done on the last cruises with them. Much easier and more comfortable than the cluster f it is now with everyone lining up outside.

Only the older ships before 2008ish will have the muster outside.

Because that is the SOLAS requirement, if there is sufficient space on deck close to the boats. The only ships allowed to have indoor muster stations are those that were designed with reduced promenade decks, such that there is not sufficient space to have the muster and still allow passage past the mustered passengers. Muster has nothing to do with passenger comfort, it has to do with safety. Indoor muster stations can be compromised if there is a fire in the same fire zone as the muster station, as all electricity and ventilation is shut off in the affected fire zone, from the top deck to the keel. And, yes, there are alternate muster locations that can be used if conditions dictate. Muster drill is a "cluster f" only because the passengers make it that way. That'll get you banned from here. It's obvious no one bothered to read your 1st post. If it were as easy as just deciding to move the muster drills inside with the stroke of a pen or the waving of a magic wand, I'm sure Carnival would have done so by now.
