jaydee6969 Posted January 18, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2019 Looking for some information on Iona progress, and stumbled across these photos. I believe them to be of Iona, after trying to get the German translated, with hashtags for Iona in the descriptions. The Neptun Werft yard is currently working on the floating engine room unit (FERU), which will then be 'floated' to Meyer Werft Papenburg later on, for ship block assembly to commence.
jaydee6969 Posted January 29, 2019 Author #2 Share Posted January 29, 2019 A video of the FERU being moved from the construction hall. Being transported to Papenburg towards end of February, according to Meyer Werft. Video link from Meyer Werft/Neptun Werft.
Britboys Posted January 30, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2019 Thank you so much for posting this. Whilst I have no desire to sail aboard Iona, I find the way they build these huge, complicated feats of engineering absolutely fascinating. pete14 Posted January 30, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2019 Thanks for providing the pictures. Good to see that progress is being made even though there is nothing we can do to ensure that it is completed by May 2020. Still a long way off but the excitement for the maiden cruise is building with every update.
jaydee6969 Posted January 30, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted January 30, 2019 I think that once they move Spectrum of the Seas out of the covered deck into the basin, and move the large floating section for the Norwegian Encore into the dock, which is scheduled for end of February, then we should start to see Iona come to life. We are not on the maiden for this, but sailing end of June. Looking forward to seeing it come to life.

jaydee6969 Posted March 15, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted March 15, 2019 (edited) Just stumbled upon this video of Iona FERU now in the basin at Meyer Werft, alongside Spectrum of the Seas. Construction should soon be starting in earnest within the construction hall. Also found this of Iona in transit on the Ems. Britboys Posted March 15, 2019 #8 Share Posted March 15, 2019 Thanks for the update. Congratulations to the Tug Masters - looks like they were battling with quite a wind across the river there!
Monorail Orange Posted March 17, 2019 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2019 Thanks for sharing. May '20 seems awfully close when you see those pictures. Then again they work so fast, she'll probably be looking more like a ship next time we see her. Their last LNG ship was delivered over 6 weeks late !!!
jaydee6969 Posted March 20, 2019 Author #11 Share Posted March 20, 2019 Meyer Werft have now added a webcam for Iona to their site. These are only small low res photos and generally only updated once a week, but it does give you and idea of the ongoing construction. Dermotsgirl Posted April 15, 2019 #18 Share Posted April 15, 2019 Those big ships are an amazing feat of engineering. I'm going on Iona in March 2021. We were slightly hesitant about booking, but thought we'd give it a try.

Monorail Orange Posted April 28, 2019 #25 Share Posted April 28, 2019 Thanks for the updated jaydee - she's coming along nicely. Anyone know if there's any truth to the rumour I heard that Ocean Terminal will get extended in the future? Someone told me that they want to increase its size for Iona (or more likely once her sister is built).
