DSC additional cost?

On another thread, a $14.50 pp/pd DSC cost was mentioned.  Is this an extra fee on top of reservation and pre-paid gratuity?

It depends on what you mean by prepaid gratuity.

 

You can prepay the DSC, so maybe that’s what you are referring to. In that case, no, you have already paid it.

 

However, if you mean the gratuities charged on the dining or beverage package, then yes, the DSC is something separate.

If you have "prepaid service charges" you will not be charged again. If you have not, this amount will be charged to your account on board. To see if you have prepaid your service charges, you can log into My NCL , go to your vacation summary for the trip, and scroll down to the section called "Pre-pay Service Charges". If you have the option to pay there, you haven't paid yet.

If you by pre-paid gratuity means the gratuity paid on drink- or dining packages, then that is something different. The daily service charge (DSC) is gratuity that is divided between roomstewards, waiters in restaurants that are non-specialty (like MDRs, Asian restaurant or the buffet restaurant), plus some of the positions on board that work "behind the scenes" in giving you a great cruise.

To clarify further.

 

Everyone is charged the DSC to their onboard account each day (unless they are from a country which includes it in the fare, like the U.K.). You can prepay this if you like.

 

A 20% charge is added to purchases such as beverages, including the beverage and dining packages. If you get those packages as a promo then you still pay the 20% (again, unless you are from

somewhere like the U.K. where it isn’t charged). You pay that 20% in advance and it is totally separate from the DSC.

NCL does not have a prepaid gratuity. They have a DSC or Daily Service Charge. People tend to use the terms interchangeably.
