Although we have cruised with other companies,(Princess, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and P&O)I have recently booked our first Cunard voyage on Queen Victoria this October-already very excited-  but we really would like to book a Transatlantic for August 2020 but would we be better booking this whilst aboard Queen Victoria- I guess I am asking what are the benefits of booking your next cruise before you disembark for us Brits. Also is the price likely to increase greatly between now and October ? We normally avoid cruises during the school holidays but August2020 is the best fit for us so does anyone know if  there are likely to be hordes of children aboard? Thanks in advance for your help

On one of my 8 crossings, there were over 350 under 18's. The captain organised a young people's mocktail party complete with sticky buns.

 

Apart from the swimming pool on Deck 12, you would not have known they were on board.

 

Definitely book on board. You'll get extra OBC and possibly some extra discount, then tell them that you're offering  the booking to your TA. Most TA's will give extra discount or extra OBC or both.

 

Alternatively, check the US prices and book there. We did it twice and there was a considerable saving.

 

Prices might increase before the crossing. On the other hand they might drop. Buy at the rate you're happy with and leave it at that.

The benefits of booking 'Onboard ' is the generous OBC you'll automatically receive ... you can also transfer your booking to a cruise specialist of your choice, who may also give you a further discount and additional OBC .

 

You can also opt for a 'Future cruise deposit' ...you pay  £50 'per person' and you'll have up to one year to book the cruise/voyage of your choice.  The booking does not have to be within the same year  ( just as long as it is booked before the expiry date ....in other words, book it or loose it)

The only thing you have to take into consideration is the chance of the cruise that you want to book in August 2020 increases in price between now and October this will then negate any extra OBC you will get. It is only a risk that you can take because nobody knows which way the price will go between now and October but being high season it will probably go higher before October.

On our first Cunard cruise last year (Canaries) we booked for the Baltic in 2020. The fare was slightly less than the usual Cunard fare, and we got $415 OBC each, so well worth having, 15% deposit.
